It seems to me that instead of looking at ways to be more efficient, the government and its agencies instead run to terminate employment.
What happens to the tasks these 600employees were performing?
Perhaps they should be looking at reducing the outrageous pension benefits that are given to some government workers.

Here comes the right wing lunatic bandwagon blasting lazy workers, benefits and how our government is the root of all problems.

Joseph: what, do you think, happens when "government becomes more efficient?" People lose their jobs, is what happens, or have you been asleep since the 1980s?

Federal employment has been flat for the past 5 years (surprised?), whereas total government employment, which grew from < 20 Million in 2000 to > 22.6 Million in 2009, has now fallen to 21.8 Million. Lab jobs are mostly federal, I'd guess, and they're being affected, too. Web Link The 2010 spike is just temps doing the Census.

Basically, one person's deficit reduction is another person's laid-off livelihood. It is always, and here, very sad for those who are losing the jobs.
