I say let them strike.
We can all work from home, travel the backroads to get where we need to.
Let then them understand like the rest of us how this Great Depression has cost us jobs and lost benefits. Let them understand reality rather than be insulated by cronies in politics.
Im not advocating breaking the union, just re-ground them to reality.
They are the highest paid transit works in the country, and THAT is not enough?
Plus Brown could temporily drop taxes on gas, thereby lowering prices for commuters, but that would be way too logical.

I think BART workers are more than fairly compensated already. And the pensions and medical plans need to be realistic, instead of the unsustainable programs that are driving cities and counties into bankruptcy. The unions are outliving what they were originally intended for, and are now becoming as greedy as the businesses they condemn.

This Union has the power to damage every part of the Bay Area they serve, both economically and personally. Should any group of people have so much power? When the air traffic controllers went on strike, they all were fired. Maybe this would work here. I have friends and family members out of work. BART's wages are pretty attractive. There should not be a problem attracting new employees.
