Alamo Heritage Destroyed

Alamo Heritage - Destroyed?

At a recent MAC meeting the fate of Westminster Manor was discussed. Westminster Manor on Hemme Blvd., built in 1929, is the only large historical building left in Alamo. In recent years it has provided many groups a sanctuary, a retreat.

The setting is idyllic with mature 100 year old oak trees scattered throughout the park-like grounds. According to the UCCR web site The Manor accommodates 30 persons with 8 bedrooms and a beautiful redwood paneled living room with fireplace. The Carriage House accommodates 20 persons with 7 bedrooms and a meeting room with wood burning stove. The grounds provide outdoor meeting areas and picnic areas.

To destroy this piece of Alamo history is appalling. It needs to be preserved. Alamo needs a community center for all of the groups in the area. And Westminster Manor needs Alamo. Our job as residents, to preserve and care for The Manor and grounds

Please contact me at mrs.w@comcast.net so that we can work and plan to save the Manor.

Mu Aunt has volunteered for years at Montalvo in Saratoga. This is a very similar opportunity perhaps. Research Montalvo and you will see what I mean.

It's a spectacular structure, that's for sure. But I am not sure what you are saying might become of it? If this were Danville, our fine council members would probably be looking at locating a Jack-in-the-Box there..... but is this not protected as a historical building?
