A Dublin man died Saturday morning in a solo-vehicle crash on the transition ramp from southbound Interstate 680 to eastbound Interstate 580 in Pleasanton, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The Alameda County coroner’s bureau identified the man killed as 64-year-old Michael Chapman.

Chapman was driving a white Ford F-350 pickup truck with a raised frame when he lost control of the vehicle and hit the attenuator barrels between the transition ramp and the Hopyard Road exit ramp around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, CHP officer Derek Reed said.

The truck hit the barrels at a high rate of speed, went over a guardrail and the front of the truck crashed into a freeway overpass abutment.

The truck came to rest on a guardrail. Paramedics pronounced Chapman dead at 7:48 a.m., according to CHP officials, who originally reported the Dublin man was 65 years old.

One lane of the transition ramp was closed until about 10 a.m. and the Hopyard Road exit ramp reopened at 2:30 p.m. Saturday after road crews repaired the damage and replaced the attenuator barrels.
