Ace is in place

Original post made on Aug 14, 2009

Ace Hardware opened today in Alamo, to the delight of residents who have wanted another full service hardware store to open after the longtime Yardbirds closed in summer 2006, then the Home Depot Yardbirds closed in January.

Interesting that they opened on Thursday. The mailer we received with a discount coupon stated they were opening on Friday, August 14th. Glad to hear they had a good first day of business.

No opening ceremony, no scout troops or school groups invited, no civic groups invited. Just open the doors and start counting the money.

Not very impressive from our new "neighbor"

Regarding Alamo's Ace Hardware Thursday pre-opening, it is known in the retail trades as a "soft-opening" and is quite normal. It is very common for Department stores to have a soft-opening usually two-to-three(2-3)days prior to their official opening date. It gives the retail entity a few days for their staff to become acclimatised and provides a dry-run to trouble shoot any computer problems, or merchandise/stock related problems that may arise. The dry-run scenario alerts management to situations they will encounter when the first customers arrive on opening day.

Soft opening?

More like a flaccid opening.

Why do people always look for the negative? Just be glad that we finally have a hardware store back. I say welcome Ace.........

Amen to that! Is it any wonder people are hesitant to provide services to an unappreciative community? As far as "counting money" I suppose you work for free?

The best kept secret in Danville is the hardware store inside of the old Danville Auto Parts...it's a great little shop.......saves me trips to the big MONSTER store everytime....most people don't even know its there. We have a hardware store in our own backyard. SHOP LOCAL! There is no negitive here!!

I took my screen in to get re-screened, and they had it done in a few hours!

We have been in the store 4 times already and have signed up for the Ace Club. Just FANTASTIC to see a hardware store back in Alamo. I have been putting off purchasing items, so we can support the new store. Welcome.

Kirk, you are an outstanding citizen............that was so nice of you to hold off on buying products to help support your new neighbor. You should recieve the Citizen of the year award for Alamo. Keep up the good work. I hope you help our all your local shops the same way!

Fred sounds like he is not happy and nothing can make him happy. I too am glad to see the store open. I would much rather shop locally where it supports the area and support of someone will to take a risk. It takes a lot to open up a store like that in these times. I just hope to see some local kids working there when I visit.

Ok. I have to be negative. The song has just never been the same since it went politically correct. I'll always love

Ace is the place of the helpful hardware man.

Not the same ring as...

Ace is the place of the helpful hardware person.

On the positive, most ACE stores are franchises. I once owned a restaurant located next door to an ACE hardware and I always liked the store, its staff, and the owner. Nice to see the "little guy" do well.
