69th Anniversary of WWII Doolittle Raid

Original post made on Apr 13, 2011

USS Hornet Museum will commemorate the 69th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid, America's daring
World War II bombing raid of Tokyo, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, April 16, at the museum, 707 W. Hornet Ave., Pier 3, Alameda. The "Doolittle Raiders" were an elite group of airmen who executed an historic, daytime air raid against Tokyo in WWII led by legendary pilot Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle, USAAF (who was born in Alameda). The day will include a special exhibit on the raid with speaker Stephen Jurika at 10 a.m.; the Swingin' Blue Stars will perform from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; David Styles will speak at 1 p.m.; the USS Hornet Museum will come alive for "Living Ship Day" from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; and through the day period-dressed personnel from the Bay Area Women's and Men's Historical Representation Society will be strolling around the ship chatting with visitors. Admission is $6-$15 and there is ample free parking across from the pier. Call (510) 521-8448 or visit [Web Link www.usshornet.org].

The link in the Doolittle Raid story,www.usshornet.org, is wrong. The correct link is Web Link. But there are no DETAILS on Saturday's Doolittle event on that site. The details in the Danville Express are incomplete and some of what is there is incorrect. Best bet is to call the museum number in the story: (510) 521-8448. They are very helpful.
