Alamo Downtown Plan: Let's Update our discussions
Original post made by Hal Bailey on Apr 15, 2008
Please review this 2001 commentary by the AIA: At last year's Town Hall meeting, it was clear there was enthusiastic support to consider other approaches, besides a traffic light, to manage traffic. There was support for developing a downtown that identified Alamo as a unique place where we live, work and shop.
With the support of Supervisor Gerber's office, we have a rare opportunity to retain a planning/imaging consultant who will conduct a limited study with conceptual drawings for downtown Alamo. To facilitate this process, we want to provide Supervisor Gerber's office with thoughts from Alamo businesses and residents. We are interested in anything you have to say! Tell us what you would like to see in Alamo. Please supply your (ideas) questions and answers.
Rather than indicating how to solve some of downtown Alamo's problems, it would be helpful if you described attributes of your ideal town. For example, saying you want slower vehicular traffic so Alamo is a safe place to drive and walk, or people can see my shop, allows consideration of a greater number of solutions than saying you want a traffic light, no turns at a particular intersection, a bench at a particular location, etc.
NOW in 2008 we should revisit this request so we can truly define the ideal shopping, commercial and high-density residential environment. Please post your questions, answers, ideas and concepts on this forum.
