Coast Guard admiral, Pearl Harbor survivors will appear at 9-11 remembrance

Original post made on Sep 7, 2012

It's Danville's turn to host a 9-11 remembrance event, and town Councilwoman Karen Stepper is promising big things, including the Coast Guard's actions following the crash of two planes into the World Trade Center. "Rear Admiral Mary O'Donnell -- She's going to talk about the greatest maritime evacuation ever," Stepper said.

Councilwoman Stepper -

Great idea to feature the spontaneous and courageous actions of those who evacuated the Manhattan coastline in 2001 as part of the 9-11 remembrance. While not as widely known as many of the events that transpired that horrific day, it is not told often enough.

Mr. Wohitmann:

The 9-11 attack and subsequent tragedies, acts of heroism, acts of charity, and uniting of our nation were too large and important to be remembered at an event that "...will begin at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 and wrap up by 6:40."

Please reconsider your choice of the words 'wrap up,' which too flippant and disrespectful of the day and its consequences. This tribute will not 'wrap up.' It will likely be closed by a formal ceremony marking the gravity of the day.

Regards,

Diane of Alamo

As describe, this "event" is lukewarm when compared to the events Veteran's organizations hold each year.

"Immediately following, there will be free ice cream, Crackerjacks and bottled water. " - Is this event a remembrance or celebration???
