The SRVUSD has produced excellant sports programs over the years, and the community should be especially proud of the leadership, dedication and work ethics that are developed through these programs. Now that the State has cut money from education, Physical Education and sports are being targeted as an area to cut. Think of the number of students each year who are selected for elite Universities and Colleges because of the student athlete's dedication and hard work! The State Assembly wants to change the grading system at the Community College level to Credit or no Credit in PE. Physical Education is required as part of the curriculm at all of the Community Colleges, students want to earn their grades. Many career options require several courses under the umbrella of Physical Education, to matriculate to four year schools. Changing to pass fail will hardly evaluate a students abilities in impacted fields of study. The medical field, has many areas that require solid practical understanding of the human body. Todays students need this information to advance into their chosen fields of study. Changing the evaluation of student performance at the college level is unaceptable in any area of study, why target Physical Education? The public has to put a stop to State Government's intervention in matters of curicula. Grading shouldn't concern politicians. Our community deserves more than just average, because our students excel in everything they do. Protect your childrens future GPA stop the politicians from creating a credit ONLY system in Physical Education at the College level.

A pass or fail grade will not impact the student who is an exceptional athelete. P.E. is one of last bastions of fun for the high school/ community college student. Why does everything have to be about evaluating student performance? Really, if a kid wants to be exposed to a new sport or just get some well needed exercise, why do they have to be graded on it? I do not think their performance in P.E. will help advance them in their chosen profession. Lighten up!
