New Gallery to Open in San Francisco

Original post made by John Barry, Danville, on Nov 13, 2009

Unable to find a suitable venue in the Danville-San Ramon Area, a group of local artists has secured a space in San Francisco in which to showcase talent from around the Bay Area. United Artists Association, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization of working artists, of which—full disclosure—I am a member, plans to open the doors of Artsite Gallery in early December. Located at 101 Townsend Street, a baseball’s throw from AT&T Park, the 1,400-square-foot venue will feature work of diverse Bay Area painters, sculptors, and other creators.

Dear Dolores,

Might we have John and Bill update us on the progress with Morman's Artful Herd, as life size resin horses used as artist's canvasses at sponsors' location throughout our corridor? Norman, the life-size horse on top of the old Alamo post office and in front of Alamo Hay & Grain has stimulated this interest in an Artful Herd.

Hal

What happened to the building that was suppose to be an arts building on El Cero /La Gonda and never took off could that not have served as a local place for the artist instead of san francisco??

The White Elephant building at La Gonda/El Cerro was never proposed as a fine art exhibition venue, but rather as a performing arts venue. I believe that the Town of Daville gave the keys to the local YMCA to develop. My understanding is that they had a time frame to raise the $millions necessary to complete the interior and make it work. A boondoggle in my opinion.
