Very pleased town council has common sense in stopping this type of business to operate in our town.
For such a republican town you'd think they would approve anything that has the capacity to generate substantial revenue, especially since the topic at hand poses little threat to the community; not to mention the problem is already overwhelming so why not capitalize on the opportunity to regulate it?!?!
Oh yes keep your little town image safe and sound on the surface. And the comment from Parent...is a typical parent with their head is the sand...You people.....
I support the common sense action by the Town Council. My children were in school during the 70's and I would not want to repeat that time. We were part of family groups 'patrolling' certain parking lots.
Medical pot fronts for recreational pot followed by an increase in crime. The Council must make every effort to keep it out, even challenging any precedent that might result from tne Anaheim case. There are alternative legal prescription medications for those who need them.
you know what, it doesn't matter what we all think because the courts are going to come down against the cities on this, and all municipalities will have to allow the dispensaries to operate within their borders.
They don't already sell medical marijuana here in Danville? I thought smoking marijuana explained why Danville people drive the way they do. So Danville drivers aren't stoned? I guess they're just naturally bad drivers. Interesting. Who knew?
I think that mara..uhhh marijan...uhhh...pot is bad. But no one cares what a house painter thinks. That's ok.
Boynextdoor - what are the alternatives? As a health care professional and someone who helped provide access to a family member who was going through chemotherapy and used medical marijuana to stimulate appetite and control nausea, I am not aware of anything else with the same benefit.
I'm not necessarily advocating a dispensary here - but I think we need to be real regarding the uses of this drug and why it is an important part of recovery and/or treatment for some patients (it is not just used for chemo patients).
Julia.....do you indulge? I am taken by your comments. I take back everything I said about you. Who cares what they say if someone wants to open a store here I don't think they can stop them. I have terrible ringing in my ears and pot is the only thing that stops it. I guess I shouldn't have spent so much time in Viet Nam. If anyone has ringing in their ears try some pot......it works wonders! ENJOY!
You people need to get your heads out from under the sand....it's 2009 for Christ sake!
Thanks Greg...I very much appreciate your comments...I knew we had something in common...common sense. You're right, for Christ sake this is Danville...even we do it in Alamo.
Thanks again Greg...Julia
Sharon and Greg, Talk to your licensed medical doctor. Street medicine is like street food, it can make you sick.
Boynextdoor, I work with doctors, nurses and physical/occupational therapists (as I said, I work in health care). I assure you, they would all be all too eager to inform you that medical marijuana serves a purpose in health care and should not be confused with street grade pot.
Again, I am not necessarily advocating having a dispensary in Danville, mainly because I think people here are not ready for that type of service and would likely harass the ill patients that are legitimately purchasing the marijuana as treatment - and I think that is a shame.
Julia and Greg - it's great to see you two playing nice!
Pot makes you feel not so good and hungry. It is bad. But no one listens to the painter. That's ok.
I love people like Sharon who claim to be a "healthcare professional", so we are suppose to be impressed and agree with her position. Come on! First, a "healthcare professional", could be the person who cleans the toilets in a chiropractor's office, and since you do not list your professional licensure, I am sure you are not a licensed medical doctor. Second, a licensed medical doctor can prescribe marijuana, for the few who actually benefit from it due to cancer, etc, and not the people who claim to have "disabilities" like alcoholism or a bad back and want an excuse for pot. The few who really need it, can get a legal prescription from a real licensed medical doctor, and get it filled in Walnut Creek, Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco, and there is no reason to have a pot shop in Danville, as our little town does not have the resources to deal with all the negative issues that would flow from that type of shop in Danville.
Not a HCP - Interesting definition you have there of a health care professional. The person you describe (toilet cleaner) is actually a janitor. Maybe it is hard to tell the difference for some.
Nope, I'm not a doc and I'm not trying to impress you in the least - just giving my experience at work and in my own family with the use of marijuana for medical issues. In every case I know of a doc has written an Rx for marijuana, and then they are filled at a dispensary - that's how it works. I went to Berkeley for my brother's Rx and you'll get no complaints from me. It was so helpful to him that I was happy to do it. In case you missed my point in the previous post - I mentioned that I am not advocating a dispensary here.
You love me? How sweet!
Wouldn't it be great if people were to honestly assess societies hypocrisy? How many alcohol dispensaries are there in the town of Danville. How many for tobacco?
If society were able to start from square one and choose between 2 of three most prevalent feel good drugs, namely tobacco, alcohol and marijuana. Which 2 would be selected. Knowing the self inflicted wounds and disease of alcohol and tobacco, knowing the carnage on the roads and the tolls on families and friends. Which two would you select?
OP: Your comments do raise some good points. In a perfect world, we would not have tobacco, alcohol, or marijuana. However, we do not live in a perfect world. Our world(our town of Danville) already has tobacco and alcohol dispensaries, and we will never be able to get rid of them since they are established. We do not have marijuana dispensaries, and still have time to keep them out of our town. Town Council is doing the right thing to keep them out. We already have problems with alcohol and tobacco abuse here, why add marijuna to the list?
So no marijauna facility in Danville.!! Then I think we should not allow liquor stores, cigar stores, wine bars, tabacco products or anything like that in Danville then. Alcohol causes more problems than marijuana ever can. Alcohol is prevalent among teens already. A marijuana facility would be controlled and licensed. What about compassion for those who are ill and need it. I know for a fact that it helps back pain, arthritis, and other ailments. Some people cannot take prescriptions pain medications, and have adverse reaction to OTC tablets on a regular basis, ie, Aleve, Advil.etc....so where is Danville's compassion for those who would benefit. I say put in a marijuana facility and if it does cause problems then close it. Otherwise, let us give it a try.
FYI..........there are a number of "caregivers" that deliver for FREE, and it is cheaper to get it from them because they have no overhead. All you have to do is call them and they bring it right to your home or place of business within hours. They check your card give you your Rx and they are on their way. The only drawback is the variety.....but it's always been excelent product. Try it you'll like it! Just don't let town council know about this!!!!!
I can't belive this is happening in our little DANVILLE!
Julia please check my spelling!
Someday I imagine we will all live in a land were men and women alike are free to do what they choose to do with their own bodies. A world were one really does have right to pursue happiness as they see fit. Even if it is sitting at home smoking from a glass pipe.
My initial reaction was "keep it away from the high school", which is a bit difficult with SRVHS being so close to downtown.
Then I read a few of the more intelligent comments, had a sip of wine and remembered that Trader Joe's, that well known purveyor of Two Buck Chuck, is about as close to SRVHS as any possible pot dispensary but I have yet to see a slew of drunken students staggering from it's doors.
Then I thought some more and wondered why you even need a dedicated dispensary; why not just make it available via the various existing medical dispensaries (Danville/San Ramon Pharmacy, Longs/CVS, Walgreens). It's a drug so, if it's prescribed, why not?
PS - Thank you to the Danville PD for the D.A.R.E. program that made it easier for our kids to resist peer pressure and grow up, (if that is how you see it), at their own pace.
Thank you- Town Council members. It is refreshing to reaad about people in government/responsible positions- who are not affraid of the vocal hyenas who are pushing their agenda on the rest of the community. I, and a great many others stand with you, Town Council! Please keep up your good work.
It never ceases to amaze me how many proto-nazi NIMBYists there are in this town.
Did y'all forget that the GOP supposedly stands on the platform of individual liberty and limited government?
Gag me with a spoon.
I assume, YUCK, you are referring to "eagles" comment!
I can't wait til somene in their family will need the drug.....then they will whistle a differedt tune!
It' a shame we have to let a group of closed minded people make an important dissision for everyone. Maybe we should vote on it.
You know, I would worry if we had a dispensary here that it would be a horribly difficult experience for sick people (and their family members) to get the drug. Just based on the thread attached to this story there seems to be so much misinformation about just how/why the drug is prescribed that some of the smaller minded townies might just stand outside and picket or cause other problems - all in the name of keeping marijuana away from our kids (because apparently it is not available without prescription on the street/backyard/whatever).
I would love a dispensary here - it would make access so much easier for some of the families we see at our office and in their homes. But I think the fearful, misguided (and NIMBY - you are right about that "yuck") response is sadly prevalent.
When I smoke marijuana I become superhumanly enraged and all I can think about is breaking into a rich white Danvillian's home, pilfering his private property, defiling his womenfolk, and recruiting his children towards a homosexual agenda, and then with a shrill cry loping off to a polling booth to vote for liberal causes.
That's why I just stick to alcoholism: the safe, legal, morally unreprehensible way to ruin my family life -- the commercial means for which I support existing in our impervious little imaginary Town.
So don't let any of these fiends tell you otherwise.
It would be safer for the kids if they had a local distributor.. rather than driving their paretns luxury sedans to more "questionable" local cities. (and save on gas!)
And does this mean I can smoke cigarettes that I've paid taxes on at the local bar? Doesn't the town council have any pity watching those poor guys in front of Menhar's and Elliotts hovering in the cold?
Don't miss out on the discussion!
