Diablo Views: A world of contrasts

Original post made by Dolores Ciardelli, editor of Danville Express, on Dec 17, 2009

We know that we live in an almost perfect world, right? Snow is a cause of wonder, not of suffering. We’re surrounded by healthy, beautiful people. And we’re mostly safe – although we should do a better job of locking our cars.

I know well Germanys and all of europes suffering during that era. My grandparents lived through it. 7 million Germans died in that war, hundreds of thousands of civilians, most often women and children, burned alive by allied incendiary bombing. Twenty million Russians were killed during WWII. European peoples have had as many struggles in their past and present as have any people from any continent. Such is something to contemplate. Thank you Dolores

This must have been very emotional for Mike Doyle and a meeting that really warmed his heart. What a wonderful story!

Your article on the Berlin Airlift, Brunhilde and Mayor Mike Doyle was wonderful. As a former Mayor of Clayton and Vietnam veteran, I can tell you that Danville is lucky to have Mike and the kind of man he is as one of their very able leaders. Kudos to you, your Mayor and the people of Danville (which includes one of our "kids", husband and 2 grandsons!!!). Keep up the great work!

My cousin is married to Brunhilde's younger sister. Thank you for your very touching article. These girls went through things we cannot imagine.
