YMCA plans deserve better journalism

Original post made by CDSI Research, Alamo, on Jul 18, 2010

Dear Emily,

REF: Web Link

Upon return from Spain, CDSI Info e-mail was filled with regional neighbors' concerns for a continuing YMCA presence in the Alamo region including continuing on-campus services at SRVUSD schools and potential use of the SRV YMCA property for YMCA commercial offerings.

Rather than simply printing press releases that promote the YMCA without full disclosure of community concerns, you need to use your journalistic talents to investigate and present the strong negatives felt by regional neighborhoods toward the overall YMCA actions and events of the past years.

With BAYMCA and SRVUSD refusing interactive communications with regional neighborhoods, we must rely on your journalism to disclose the full PUBLIC reality of the YMCA, its sources and uses of funds, and its detailed planning for our region.

Journalism, please. There are far better options for SRVUSD on-campus after-school learning programs and there are far better uses for the SRV YMCA property in Alamo.

What's a "regional neighbor?"

Dear Emily,

Neighborhoods in the Alamo region have referred this matter to counsel for discovery and actions. Such neighborhoods in Alamo and Danville north of Diablo Road consider the continuing presence of any YMCA relationship with SRVUSD and any further YMCA commercial operations to be undesirable. Point being that YMCA programs on SRVUSD campuses are childcare when exceptional learning programs are available at very competitive prices. The unwanted YMCA facility in Alamo north of Hap Magee remains opposed by the majority of regional residents.

Fran needs to be realistic in BAYMCA planning and surrender any local role in the Alamo region.
