Thank goodness no one was seriously injured physically. How terrifying for everyone involved, at 10:30 there are only women an small children shopping. We never know when our life can take a bizarre turn.

I really hope all efforts are made to catch these perps. This will continue and eventually innocent people will be hurt.

I am shocked that this happened in broad daylight. The employees and any shoppers who were there are so fortunate that they weren't seriously injured. I don't like the way things are going these days!

That's why we need 'open carry'

So, if it becomes legal, will you commit Harry-carry?

You're right on, Harry. These people are cowards who only prey on the defenseless. If they thought someone would turn pepper spray, or preferably something more lethal, on them, it would never have happened.

Open carriers would be a much bigger threat to the domestic peace and tranquility than the punks they're a-hankering teach a lesson, all Dirty Harry-style.

Just what I want in my town -- a bunch of pasty, over-amp'd, under-trained yahoos bent on vigilante justice.

Now Julia, THAT would be funny.

To my favorite jeweler, I hope you are alright after this ordeal and I pray that justice is brought to these scums. Thank goodness you and all the customers were not seriously injured. Your client from Lodi, Janet

Open Carry worked so well in the "Wild West"! No innocent people were hurt in the streets or bars and people with vendettas got their swift justice.

In those days, teenagers also carried. That would work well at Monte Vista, now wouldn't it? At an open campus like SRVHS, the idea is especcially appealing.

Maybe we should also hang people from the Danville Oak? (Although, I admit, the idea of using stocks does appeal to me.)

What a most unfortunate incident in our town by these thugs. Harry brings up an interesting point though regarding arms . IF we were all armed do you think these types would go elsewhere to commit the crime?

Seriously, we need to be continually vigilant and when we see suspicious individuals in OUR neighborhood get involved and call the police. Don't put the rose colored glasses on and think it can't happen here. If something looks out of place go with your gut.

Most unfortunate. Crime happens when the criminal believes he can get away with it, either at the scene or later in the court! We can debate how to prevent it, however, unless we change something the results will be the same; more crime.

redidents of danville. the crime coming into our community has been steadily increasing over the last few years. the fact that criminals know most people here are easy targets make it more and more unsafe for everyone. if the jewelry store had an armed trained gaurd maybe things would have been different. what will it take for the community to get more involved and try and become more alert, aware and prepared. having a night time invasion with a criminal aiming a loaded weapon at your loved ones head and possibly pulling the trigger should not be the wake up call in danville that gets people to be proactive in healthy steps towards crime prevention. forming neighborhood watch groups, having weekly community meetings and , yes having designated trained armed citizens on your block might be a necassary action. sure not everybody needs a gun but having some people have them who are trained and ready to use them if the need arises is better then relying on the police for everything. lets all do our part instead of slamming each other here in this forum.

This is a dated article with no updates. Have the police made any progress in locating / identifying suspects? Need update on ths case.

Businesses, unfortunately, need to update (or even initially install) security equipment within their business as well as OUTSIDE entrances.

Not as complex or expensive as one might thing. Just around the corner from the Conignment Store is COSTCO ... for a few hundred dollars one can purchase a multi-camera system.

The police can only do so much. They need our help, also. How many times do we cases where cameras identify the criminals & make it easier to prosecute.

Word gets around; many criminals are dumb .... but many aren't totally stupid. A business with no visible cameras or security is ripe for picking. Help law enforcement help us. Upgrade the security ... this will help scare off all but the dumb criminals.
