McNerney to move to San Joaquin County, run for re-election in a newly-aligned 11th Congressional District

Original post made on Aug 2, 2011

Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton), whose 11th Congressional District is being reconfigured out of Pleasanton to include more of San Joaquin and east Contra Costa counties, announced today that he will seek re-election next year to the 11th District office he holds.

Dear Jeb,

Publishing a news release with political spin rather than analysis of the political representation changed by state redistricting simply leaves a volume of questions unanswered for your readers in the 680 south/580 corridor. Simply challenging yourself with the changes taking place in congressional representation and considering the impact on corridor communities provides the journalism you signed on for.

Tell the story to your readers and realize that subscriber news services have covered this reality.

Ever since he voted for Obamacare without reading the bill, I wanted to see him go. Why - my Medicare Advantage plan was cancelled in this area as a result of a section in that bill. Anyone who votes for a controversial and convoluted bill without reading it doesn't deserve to serve in Congress

Did you even read the article? His record is important, but what political spin just him talking about his district. Not everything has to be biased in the media as many seem to think. And Dave, sadly you won't get a chance to vote him out you'll have to vote against another incumbent democratic represntative in the 10th district.

Demographically isn't it funny how our entire Bay Area is blue? How's that working out for us? As an independent I see the good and bad job McNerny has done for me with the new Veteran's hospital that has helped many fellow Iraq/Afghanistan servicemembers and as Dave pointed out a law changing health insurance affected him.

I agree with Dave and Duffy - be gone already! I hope our new representative gets elected from the Republican party... We Republicans are HUGE supporters of Veterans and Veterans projects, like the new Veterans Memorial Building. The OH-NObamacare is a scam on Americans - our children and grandchildren will suffer more than we will!
As for Congress - It's time for a new representative, and I'm glad for the change.

Thank god we are now in a safe Democratic district and dont risk being served by another job killing, hostage taking Republican. 7 months after the tea party hostage takers took control of congress the economy has slipped back into recession, more jobs are being lost and they have no focus on jobs. Just the same old rhetoric that got us into this mess in the first place. Great policies, no new revenue, demonize and lower the standing of living of our police, fire fighters and teachers, cancel airport contruction jobs and that will magically create jobs and save the economy. What crap.

His is a job with benefits that exceed those in all sectors. His move to "San Joaquin County" is the same as a corporate transfer. He is simply following the money. He's moving because that's where the cushy job is.

During all the recent budget hubbub, did our elected officials look at their own cost to the taxpayers? There are NO jobs in the private sector that can support those kind of lifetime benefits.

How about a nice published list of ALL benefits, current and future, all our elected officials award themselves- local, state, national.

I agree with Tom this is crap. This recession and the coming double recession has been balanced on the backs of the poor and middle class. I define middle class as less than $80K household income (which excludes a great portion of the tri-valley). Its funny that I never see the Tea Party in Oakland, San Leando etc. They are usually in Danville, Lafayette, Walnut Creek or Pleasanton.

By the way what has the Bush tax cuts (for wealthy and corporations) in the early 2000's done for you lately? I feel worse off from the supply side economics (i.e. trickle down) it's has been a big bust. The only jobs generated during the Bush administration were in real estate/construction/mortgae industries and we all know what happened with these industries.

I know we must cut the deficit but it should have a tone of "fairness". The Tea Party and their policies are not the answer.

I take it by "fairness" that you want even more people to pay zero federal income tax (up from the roughly 48% that either pay nothing already, or actually collect money)?

As for the "Bush tax cuts" that you hate so much - you DO realize that lower income levels received the largest percentage cuts? And it is due to the Bush tax cuts that so many lower and lower-middle income people now pay zero income tax?

So CR, So you think the problem with the Bush tax cuts is that too much of the tax cuts went to poorer people and that if we give more tax cuts to the "job creators" they will magically create more job! You live in fantasy land. Why was job creation by "job creators" better at higher rates from Clinton, Reagan, Bush 1 and in fact every president since WW2 before Bush 2 and the rates forced on Obama? Becuase lower taxes dont create jobs.

You want the rich to pay no taxes, have the legislature spend more time legislating about social and religoius isssues than the economy and have no government investment in infrastructure, then go live in Pakistan cause that is where we are heading. Or better yet go move to Texas where a corporations and individuals pay no taxes and the state leads the country in the highest percentage of people working minimum wage jobs.

Republicans think that lowering the standard of living of the majority of Americans is the only way to solve the budget crisis. That defeatist attitude is why we have lost our standing in the world.

He surrounds himself with college type thugs that slam the lid on any discussion old Jerry doesn't want to deal with---reminiscent of some old brown shirt tactics--he needs to put himself on obMacare but exempted himself and family! ADVICE: Get educated wathc fox. Main strem media is so bias. Tjey filter our news. Obama? Nobama! God help us if he gets reelected. As a bussiness owner we have no plnas to hire as we cannot afford the medical, the matching taxes and yes lets add all the workers comp fraud we have onour books now A bunch of lazy peaople that figure "Hey,I've worked enough now lets say my back hurts and get medical for the next two years! No worry my rates will only jump like crazy and may keep me from bidding any future projects as I must show that my mod. rate is low which means I have a good history of not having employees decide to take a permenate vacations on my workers comp policy! Which in turn could put me out of bussiness and lay the rest of the crew off! Great idea..I love the way the system works. No one thinks about the companies that are actually paying taxes, employing people and doing thier part to continue the American dream for all! Expecially Obama..Take another golf trip please!

Don't miss out on the discussion!
