Danville Mayor Mike Doyle will make the opening remarks, and other speakers will be a Marine captain, an Army captain and a Blue Star Mom. Trumpeter Becky Stein from San Ramon Valley High School will play "The Star-Spangled Banner" and "Taps." The Golden Gate Young Marines will be color guard; the Diablo Sea Cadets, Diablo Squadron and Training Ship, will perform a flag ceremony.
Jodi Aldridge, associate pastor of worship and arts at the church, will sing "God Bless America" and "America the Beautiful." Chuck Aldridge will sing "I'm Proud to be an American." Also three Blue Star Moms will lead the audience in "My Country 'Tis of Thee."
"The church has been very gracious to let us use their facilities the last three or four years," said organizer Dick Seavey of the American Legion. "And they assist us with sound and video backups."
The Veterans Day coordinating committee included the VFW Post 75, American Legion Mt. Diablo Post 246, Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley, Pearl Harbor Survivors, Marine Corps League Detachment 942 and the Blue Star Moms Bay Area Chapter.
In conjunction with Veterans Day, VFW Post 75 is displaying a collection of military memorabilia and history at the Veterans Hall, 300 Hartz Ave. Veterans are welcome to loan their items to the three-day exhibit, which will be open to the public 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Nov. 11-13. This will also be a chance for people to talk to veterans about their military experiences.
