Inclusion or Extraction?

Original post made by Tom Cushing, Danville, on Mar 16, 2012

This week’s column is late – for several reasons. (On) first, baseball intervened, and I spent four glorious days in the Arizona sun with my daughter. As we watched our beloved A’s unexpectedly sack the Cactus League, the world of petty political squabbles seemed far away. I pondered summoning the muse Annie Savoy to help me extol the virtues of Spring Training, when everyone’s a contender -- but she and Walt Whitman already did it better than I can (you could look it up). She’s also Susan Sarandon, which is fine with me, but not so much to some of the RC's readers.

Dear Tom,

Speaking so appropriately informed on what has become an ignorant-by-choice forum should be challenge to discovery among what should be intelligent, capable commentators. I hope you know the challenges that you have raised to the level of commentary on the town sqaure forum.

All challenge is good and I expect intelligence and global knowledge to emerge from the disarray of this forum. I fully acknowledge that Danville understands, but will they supplement your observations? That remains to be seen.

Danville and its neighbors have the talent far beyond our expectations.

Boring, and poorly written. Funny, only person interested in responding was "Hal".

Hi Ted: thanks for your insights.

One thing about the 'net -- you can choose to extract or include yourself, at-will.

Like or not, we are a nation of "mutts". The Bill Murray speech in Stripes describes us being "kicked out of every decent nation." We seem to forget, or at times deny, the amalgamation of foreign spare parts that brought us about and gave us our great scientists, engineers, inventors, and creative talents of all kinds from all over the world. Perpetuating the elitism of wealth and greed through politics and power is simply reinventing the aristocracies and tyrannies that we rejected in the first place. E pluribus unum.
