This week's police log

Original post made on May 2, 2012

The Danville Police Department provides Danville Express with a record of its calls each week. This is a sampling, omitting the more mundane, such as routine traffic stops, service requests, noise complaints and domestic disturbances.

Theresa,

There were three grand thefts in this log. Because the log we get is only the initial call information, not all grand thefts truly end up being so.

The first occurred on April 22. A woman sold a desk which she believed a ring was inside it. She said the sale did not include the ring and that the buyer did not find a ring inside the desk. The final report is listed as a suspicious circumstance.

The second, which occurred on April 23, has not been written up yet.

The third grand theft was a report by a woman who reported that she is missing some jewelry from her home. She suspects it disappeared when she had workers in her home nine months ago.

Hope this helps.

Good morning,

By the California Penal Code a Grand Theft occurs when property is stolen valued at greater than $950. It is considered theft when the thief does not have to enter a building or break-in to get the property they steal. An example of a grand theft would be if you left a laptop sitting on the front seat of your unlocked car and someone stole it. That would be Grand Theft.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and have a good day.

There was also a grand theft on Joaquin Circle that was never mentioned in this paper in early April. And from what I've heard from others, many more that never appear in these logs for one reason or another. These are tough times and rough times. Danville is a safe neighborhood, but we are not immune. Neighbors, keep your eyes open for your neighbors.
