Original post made on Feb 11, 2013

Danville mayor Newell Arnerich filed papers Friday to run for the 16th Assembly District as the second official candidate in the 2014 election. The district includes parts of Contra Costa and Alameda counties and is currently run by Joan Buchanan, who will term out in 2014.

We will NOT vote for YOU! Your deceptive history of swindling Danville voters out of their Measure S voting rights and your subterfuge of the Danville 2030 General Plan. Shame on you! You have shown us who you really are and that you do not care about your constituents!

Agreed --- Arnerich, you sold out the Town of Danville. We can not afford you.

I agree with the posts above, he has sold Danville out to developers, and covered up for his crony who falsely claimed she was an archietect in the last town council election. However, I think he can do less damage to Danville in the state Assembly, rather than as town council member in Danville, so lets vote for him and send him far away from our town.

You have devoted years of time to serving Danville and I congratulate you on your choice. You have my vote.

Arnerich has sold out the Town to ABAG (Assoc. of Bay Area Governments, a regional, unelected bureaucracy with a board composed of elected officials from all over the nine-county Bay Area). He has been instrumental in setting the Town's policy to blindly and willingly accept the housing allocations given to Danville by ABAG, which require Danville to redesignate property for high-density development. While Piedmont, Ross, Corte Madera, and other cities have asked for reassessments of those mandates, Mr. "get-long" Arnerich didn't want to ruffle any feathers with regional bureaucrats at ABAG and other Bay Area government representatives on the ABAG board. He also didn't want to offend developers that want to build all that high-density housing.

And to make matters worse, Newell's parting gift to Danville will be the horrible SummerHill Homes development for Magee Ranch Agricultural land. He already ruined Elworthy Ranch with that hideous KB Homes mess. Now Newell is planning on denying the public's Measure S vote on SummerHill so that the project will sail through.

BTW, Newell tricked voters into passing Measure S back in 2000 and not passing the citizens' Measure R. Now he is trying to trick them again and use the new 2030 General Plan to circumvent Measure S! All in a days work for Newell.

No, Newell, I won't vote for you for Assembly, not even to rid Danville of you. But I would never, ever vote for you for Town Council, either. Recall, anyone?

No way do I vote for Arnerich !I am sure all the developers and crooks he sold out too will try to help him but this time the people are on to him. Get the word out and expose this guy for what he really is !

Whomever runs against Arnerich will have a huge amount of ammunition after he/she delves into his past dealings while in a trusted position in Danville and hopefully will destroy him in the election. With any luck, he does not run and just fades away. He has done enough damage to our wonderful town already ! Kim, you neeed really need to look at his very tarnished record

I urge any of you who want to fight for Danville to attend the upcoming hearings on the General Plan. Last night the Planning Commission voted to send the General Plan to the Town Council. The Plan includes high density housing, including 3 story buildings to achieve it, ABAG, SAP, PDA. 3 hours of public comment, and only 2 or 3 in favor, the rest opposed, but the Commission chairwoman plowed ahead with the vote. Speak now, speak to the Council, send emails, make your voices heard!!!

I will be there and I am sure Arnerich has already made some " back room " deals 'in advance of the meeting !

Does anyone know anything about Steve Glazer from Orinda? I would like to help him financially and otherwise if he represents a good alternative to Arnerich. What is Glazer's position on ABAG and housing mandates? Is he selling Orinda out to developers like Arnerich?

It is getting close to time to recall this town council...maybe then the mayor will learn that he needs to listen to his constituents...if he has the chance to in the future.

Well, counting me we're running 11:1 against you Mr. Arnerich.
Met you once at a neighbor's party and you impressed me.
As a shifty used car salesman. Felt like I needed a shower when I got home.

Better money, better benefits, better perks, more autonomy, less hassle from pesky voters, lower stress. Why not? It's a natural step forward that leap-frogs over the Supervisorial snake pit. All an Assembly Person need do is vote whichever way the party tells him to, and the rest of the time relax! The State Assembly is almost as good a deal as being a retired fireman except you have to show up for lunch.

Mr. Arneich, I sure hope you are reading these posts and abandon your quest for the state assembly. You sold out the good citizens of Danville who expected you to help in preservation of our way of life and you ended up trying to make Danville another San Ramon ! I am with Derek, I also feel I need to take a shower after I see or talk to you

No one who knows of ABAG wants ABAG. Follow the money right back to Arnerich. Shame on him, he is supposed to represent US.

Very intersting reading these posts. By reputation I had heard Arnerich was " suspect" Now I am convinced !!

Danville were just a stepping stone for what was the ultimate goal. An architect on the town council could not be for the residents and their wishes for less development and traffic. He should have recused himself on many of the issues. Architects don't get paid if they don't have design projects from builders/developers. Difficult to be objective and anti-growth.

Louise, anti-growth is not the issue. Controlled and reasonable growth that enhances Danville is the priority. The Summerhill project is perfect example of what Arnerich is all about and it is reprehenisble to say the least. Throw in ABAG and other issues and this guy should be thrown out on his ear

Wow! With so much love from the people who voted him in, I wonder how he can say he "represents the people" when you can obviously tell from the posts above that Newell Arnerich is very much a part of the problem and NOT the solution. With representatives like Newell, who needs enemies?!

I was incredibly disappointed to find out that the Danville Town Council voted UNANIMOUSLY to passed the Danville 2030 General Plan. It has special interests and government heavy weights written all over it! What Town resident would really want to sign off on additional housing developments?! I have gone through hell and back working with the Town of Danville on just small construction. It's pretty crazy! I guess you need a politician in your back pocket to get anything done!
