Stay out of Jeopardy

Original post made by TV Phan on Jun 10, 2009

I find it more than a little curious that public service announcements detailing the change-over from analog to digital TV are shown several times during the Jeopardy program. This is done by a text crawl at the top of the screen. Without putting too fine a point on it, most folks who watch Jeopardy tend to be on the more intelligent side of the fence of humanity. They most likely are thoroughly familiar with the change-over and have already taken steps to ensure that their TV programming will not be interrupted.

I submit that it would make much more sense for public service announcements on this topic be shown on programs that tend to be watched by the less astute among us. In fact, if the folks in charge of getting the word out really wanted to reach down, they could do no better than targeting the David Letterman audience.

I'm just trying to help with salient and cogent suggestions for improving communication.

Just trying to help? Really? That's funny, it sure sounded like you were just looking for a reason to call David Letterman fans stupid. Elitism masked as altruism is still elitism.

Bravo TV Phan.
I totally agree with you regarding your assessment of the average intelligence of typical Jeopardy audiences, as well as your comment about the necessity of streaming the announcement about the TV changeover scheduled for today. Nothing elitist about that! I'll refrain from judging the intelligence of Letterman audiences; I don't know why he still has any audience at all, he is no longer funny and lately showed that he has absolutely no class.

" less astute among us" is a value judgement which is totally in the eyes if the beholder!

In my experience, I find that most folks who don't like value judgments don't like their values being judged.
