Alamo and some Danville voters will go to the polls in the Nov. 3 election for a new congressional representative for District 10. Two polling places will be open in Alamo and one in Danville.
Running to replace U.S. Rep. Ellen Tauscher, who accepted a position at the U.S. State Department in March, are Democrat John Garamendi; Republican David Harmer; Mary C. McIlroy of the Peace and Freedom party; Jeremy Cloward of the Green party; and Jerome Denham of the American Independent party.
State Lt. Gov. Garamendi, who lives in Walnut Grove, is the presumed front-runner in the election with the best name recognition from his three decades in state politics. Also, in District 10, Democrats outnumber Republicans 47 percent to 29 percent. Harmer, a resident of San Ramon, is coming in second in the polls.
Voter turnout is not expected to be high for this election, according to officials at the Contra Costa County Elections Division. The primary election in September saw a low voter turnout in the four counties that comprise District 10. It was estimated to be 29.9 percent in Contra Costa County.
More than half of the votes received will probably come from mail-in ballots, said election officials.

The article says, “Alamo and some Danville voters will go to the polls” today. How do Danville residents know if we’re part of the group that is supposed to vote today? I never got any voting notices in the mail, so I assume I’m not supposed to vote today.
Don’t anyone worry this seat is staying in the hands of a Democrat. The GOPers are again wasting lots of time and money and that is a good thing.
Well the right man for District 10 John Garmendi looks like the winner for us in District 10. He is leading with 55% of the votes cast compared to 40% for the GOPer. Nice to see again that we can count on Disrict voters making the right decision. We only made one mistake in the District and that was in the election of the idiot Bill Baker when our district 10 was first formed. We always vote for the best person even when the rest of the country elected Bush who turned out to be the worst President in our history.

You’re a complete idiot. Only YOU would advocate voting for a representative that doesn’t live in the district, nor has he ever met anyone in the district. A representative who believes the state has revenue problem, not a spending problem. Oh, I forgot, he’s a Democrat, that makes it OK…
How sweet it is. We get a great Rep for us in Washington and the GOPers continue to waste money on another reject.
Well I was at the election party last night and I have to tell you, John Garamendi knows A LOT of people in this district, Shelby.
The district is a lot bigger than your little neighborhood in Alamo. I wonder if you have any idea about the struggles of the people in Antioch, Dixon, Suisun City, or Livermore. Along the campaign trail, I saw 1000’s of people who know John, who volunteered for John, who spoke with John at campaign events.
In my best guesstimate and with the outcome of this election, I would say that YOU are the one who is out of touch with your local community, not John Garamendi.
Well Reader, or should I say coward for not attaching your name, the district is clearly gerrymandered to deny people in my “little neighborhood in Alamo” from having representation. Fess up, if Marion Berry ran for office in this district, you’d for him because he was a Democrat and “understood” your struggles.
