This Friday is the big Danville football game between crosstown rivals San Ramon Valley High and Monte Vista. Varsity kicks off at 7 p.m., at Monte Vista, as the teams fight for the trophy that has gone back and forth during the last few years.

Monte Vista (6-3, 4-2 EBAL) is in third place in the East Bay Athletic League as it faces San Ramon Valley (5-4, 2-4) in the last regular game of the season. The Mustangs are aiming for the No. 3 seed in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs.

Tickets go on sale at the Monte Vista field box office beginning at 3:30 p.m. Cost is $6 adults; $3 for students and senior citizens; and $2 for students with ASB stickers.

The high schools were getting in the spirit earlier this week with special rivalry T-shirts although no classes are being held Nov. 11-12.

Monte Vista took possession of the cross-town football trophy last year after beating San Ramon Valley, 42-7. The Wolves won the year before that, 26-7; and in 2007, the Mustangs won, 20-14.

  1. Great to have a local cross town rivalry in Danville-Alamo-San Ramon area. The “City” school pitted against the “Three Country Club” school.

  2. To quote Rodney Dangerfield, “Oh, you city slicker!”

I guess San Ramon Valley HS is in a SLIGHTLY more “city” environment than Monte Vista, but not by much….

    Go Mustangs!
