I thought I'd mention that if you take an approved course for "mature" drivers, you can usually get an additional discount on your auto insurance, typically 5%. Contact your auto insurance agent to confirm this. The approved courses are sort of akin to "Traffic School", but focused on the issues that affect older drivers as they age. There are in-person courses, as well as on-line courses.
I think the min. age for obtaining the discount is either 50 or 55 (I'm 57), so this isn't just for "old people" (either that, or I already am one....).
I don't know for sure if the course mentioned above is an approved one for purposes of the insurance discount. The CA DMV web site has lists of approved courses. In my own case, I'm in the middle of taking the online course offered through AAA, which for AAA members costs about $15. (I want to say that it is $20 for non-AAA members, but don't hold me to it.) Once you take the course, I think it is good for either 3 or 4 years of getting the insurance discount (before you'd need to retake it). So the "payback" on the course fee is very good!
The course itself is largely common sense, but still has a fair amount of useful info.
