Town Square

Steven Enoch, his past, how can he be in the future?

Original post made by Elliott L., Diablo, on Jun 22, 2010

The inability for this man to take criticism brings up a dark past of his work history. From some friends in Friday Harbor of mine, I found this letter(Please see below). This man cannot take criticism. Has anyone looked into his past work history? If this man feels attacked by every word written to him, how can he go and attack and single out certain staff members because of his own insecurities?

Dear Emily,

Neighbors are once again seeing a drift toward political prejudice and lack of fact-checked content in this exchange.

Certainly, Becky Smith's case is a matter for the courts!

Steve is more certainly to be judged HERE by what happens in SRVUSD. A real complaint is SRVUSD communication, and that is a majority's issue.

But let us ask Steve to realize that SRVUSD has returned to days of RECALL that brought Joan, Maryanne and others to a community-interactive board.

It is simply that,

Ralph with less than a smile

Christina: Check your facts, Becky Smith was not fired, she is on paid administrative leave. Becky Smith still has wonderful opportunity to impact students through a district office assignment. Becky in my opinion, especially with her lawsuit against our school community is more interested in herself than our students. So she will not be a principal at a SRVUSD high school in the near future, move on, there are still many ways to impact student lives.

Did you really read the letter from Mr. Enoch? Without knowing the full context it appears to be a letter written five years ago in an attempt to clarify facts around access issues to school district land for a school or play fields for a community. Read the last two paragraphs. This is hardly about a "dark past".

By the way, I'm certain Mrs. Smith did many wonderful things in her career, but the whole community knows that concerns about her started long before the superintendent arrived.

Sorry,
But ALL organizations need the flexibility and the power to hire and fire their employees. What has happened over the years is that government / public organizations have become passive in firing poor performing and lowly respected individuals.
The "talk" around students and parents wrt Becky Smith has for the most part been extremely negative, and from my perspective it is more than the typical grumbles, but always felt like legitimate gripes. So good riddance to a woman few respected and many merely tolerated.
She is now selfishly suing the district because she realizes that this is the only way to rehabilitate her dreadful reputation, and I can tell you that whether she wins or loses it will still be in the tank. I hope the district is smart enough, now that it is in the courts to release her entire personnel file, with what I am sure to be many negatives in it and to trot it out in the public forum for all to see. In fact, why not post it all on their website and win the battle that way. Thank you school district for finally have the gumption to make a long overdue personnel decision.

Christa-

Two things come to mind when reading your letter, one is why do these event concern you if you are not a part of the community? Secondly, why do you not consider pointing a gun at another person to be unacceptable? Especially when this action is done in a location that has ZERO tolerance policy and is performed by a person in a position of authority? In any place I have have ever worked actions undertaken by Ms Smith, the threatening of a person with a gun(airsoft ARE Guns) would have resulted in immediate termination as well as possible arrest. Why should Ms Smith be treated any differently? If you do not believe this would be mistaken as a threatening action, simply try this test case. Take Ms Smith's airsoft gun, walk up to a policeman, aim the airsoft at the policeman and watch what happens.
Schools also have a very draconian ZERO tolerance policy regarding weapons of all sorts, one can expelled for having a pen knife in your purse. Why did Ms Smith even HAVE a gun in her desk given this policy?

As far a support for Ms Smith from the community, I have never heard of her being spoken of positively by a non-education employed person. This lack of affection predates Mr Enoch's tenure. I do not see why the community WOULD support Ms Smith. What has she done of an organization (the essential job of a principal) is not enough, what programs has she advocated for? What projects has she implemented? Has she made a difference? As for those who say that the high test scores and university admittance rates for students are the result of Ms Smith, could you justify that? Typically, scholastic performance can be directly related to the home life/social class of the students. Another words, Monte Vista has better results then Oakland Tech because of the STUDENTS who attend, not because Ms Smith is a miracle worker. If those of you who disagree with me believe that Ms Smith is so effective, perhaps she should do a few years at Oakland Tech in the interest of improving access to education?

Who is ELLIOT? How silly you sound ELLIOT. Do you know Steve Enoch, have you been in meetings with him over the last few years like I have? Insecure is FARRRRRRR from what this man is. I may not always agree with his opinion, yet he is never far off the mark of doing his very best. He is down the earth and kind. He has nothing to hide! He listens, and is excited about education and this great community. I have never once seen him "attack" over ANY heated issue. Hiding something? Elliot, I think you are hiding something. How insecure to post something so meaningless. You need something to do with your time. Get busy with something positive.

PS. FIRE Becky Smith. Becky, any way you look at it.... YOU screwed up, so have the guts to walk away. Get over yourself. SRVUSD you need to have the guts to stand your ground on this. SAY NO to bad teachers and admin period.

I agree with Lisa's comments 100%!! When over 90% of the students and parents at Monte Vista had negative dealings with Ms. Smith, who seemed to be constantly involved in some type of scandal or lapse of judgment, it was time for her to go. The gun incident was just the final straw. Mr. Enoch, like a true leader, came in, analyzed the situation, and had the courage to make the right decision. That is what a true leader does. As to "Master", you need to take a class on critical thinking and logic skills, and stop rambling with psycho babble that adds nothing to this debate. For "Master" to suggest that Lisa had an "intimate" relationship with Mr. Enoch, simply because she supports his decision on the Ms. Smith issue, shows your true ignorance and lack of credibility.

Master, how do you know Elliot is a "just a normal person"? I personally do not know anything about him/her as all I see is a pseudonym being used to write a letter which is a distraction from the topic. The topic is should Ms Smith be fired for violating the zero tolerance policy that is in place at all schools. That is the fact at hand. The Contra Costa Times also stated that Ms Smith was ALREADY on probation for previous actions and was receiving guidance to keep her job. That is not at all related to whether Mr Enoch "has a thin skin" or writes a letter explaining his point of view to the newspaper. Rather I have to wonder why we bother to spend additional money in a tight financial time "training" someone while paying her as a manager. In private industry, a person behaving like this would be escorted from the building, not put on paid leave.

Master- it is beyond belief that you would attack another writer without evidence in a sexual way because they/she disagrees with you. Very very tacky.

This thread is not about Becky Smith. I started this thread, to examine Enoch's work history, and him wanting to control a place he no longer works at. This thread is not directly linked to Becky Smith, Enoch has let many people go beside Becky Smith. And for the record I am a man.

We need a leader from our neighborhood not an outsider. Perhaps a leader from the Bay Area, and with a Phd.

I am objectively open to comments and criticism.
