I've seen the report on this incident, and it appears that there was a tragic error in judgment which resulted in the death of this young man, and quite likely some emotional damage to his friends (though it doesn't appear that they could have anticipated his action that caused the accident).
I love my kids, hug my kids, and they have curfews. This sort of incident could also have happened 2 hours earlier - to blame grieving parents because their son made a quick decision in a boisterous moment that ended his life is denial at it's worst. None of us are immune to tragedy.
My condolences to the families of all these kids, especially the parents of the child who died. I hope you find support that will help you through this very difficult time.

According to the cc times the accident happened prior to midnight. Not an unreasonable time for kids this age to still be out. I agree with Diane, let's focus our thoughts on the poor kids and families impacted by this unfortunate event. They are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Waaaay too early to start throwing out ifs and buts. There were many factors that led to this terrible outcome, and once a thorough investigation is complete, we'll have a clearer picture of how the chips fell in this particular incident. Until then, it would be best to keep your opinions regarding two devastated families to yourself. This is the time to empathize, not criticize.
