Labor leaders accuse BART negotiator of hardball tactics

Less than two weeks before BART workers could resume their strike, union leaders alleged today that management's chief negotiator has a long history of engaging in hardball tactics and accused him of engaging in unfair bargaining.

Imagine that. So the unions (who have already called one strike, and are threatening a follow-up) think BART's lead negotiator is "unfair"?

BART should begin hiring and training replacement workers now. Some jobs at BART obviously benefit from long-standing experience on the job, but many do not. There are MANY in the area who would love to have a job at the terms that management has already offered to the union(s).

Unless non-trivial numbers of BART employees have been quitting their jobs, due to insufficient pay and benefits (and I am sure that is NOT the case), then BART's pay and benefits structure are demonstrably sufficient to hire and retain employees.

At some point BART employees need to realize that they have been living in a sort of dream-world, totally disconnected from reality.

(I would also add that this is not just applicable to the unionized positions, but applies to BART management employees as well....)
