Goodbye to the old San Ramon Valley High gym

Original post made on Aug 18, 2008

See the video! Demolition of the old gymnasium at San Ramon Valley High School continued through this morning with a crane working like a jackhammer, poking away at the concrete and steel structure while an excavator cleared away the debris, which was sorted for recycling.

My brother, sister and I all went to San Ramon Valley High School (classes of 1956, 1960 and 1971, respectively). This article mentions that the Large Gym (originally called the Boys' Gym in the era of political un-correctness!) "has been a part of the school since 1950." I was under the impression that it had been built in the late 1950's. I confirmed with my sister, who dragged out her high school yearbooks to show that construction started in 1957 and was completed in 1958.
