Check out Phil's art

Original post made by Dolores Ciardelli, editor of Danville Express, on Nov 9, 2007

I'm so excited about the new Pioneer Art Gallery downtown, even if it is only there for six months. I went to the Phil Hellsten reception last weekend to see just what kind of art he does. I'm sure people see Phil walking around Danville - he's always walking, walking, walking and very pleasant to say hello to.

I knew Phil back in the 80's when he was a frequent guest at my house in Aptos, as he came down often to surf in the Santa Cruz area. He took a lot of slide photos of me and my friends surfing various breaks. I have some of these slides myself, slide duplicates and so on that he gave to me. I was wondering if anyone, family members, or friends, have access to them. Phil used to keep/collect a lot of stuff, including lots of surfing memorabilia. I'm interested in some slides he took in the summer and early fall of 1983. I don't want them, but would just like to take a look at them, and see if I have duplicates of all the ones I wanted.
