Nanny heads wrong way down off-ramp

Original post made on Apr 19, 2008

A nanny under the influence of alcohol attempted to enter the freeway by driving the wrong way down the off-ramp, with her two 5-year-old charges in the car. She was stopped and arrested by Danville police.

Dear neighbors,

Why do we have so many off-ramps on 680 and other regional highways when one in at least every 3-5 miles would be sufficient? In this story, the off-ramp becomes a very local access road and not a significant regulator for the flow of traffic.

Closing 5 in 7 accesses to our Federal Highways would solve major flow issues, and confusion, in our region.

Dear neighbors,

In our discussions, we have noted that there is no consistency in the design of exchanges and significant local knowledge is necessary to navigate the various exchanges. We have to remember if we need to be in the left or right lane at each exchange to access the direction we want as we enter or even exit 680.

Any person could and would be confused in the Sycamore exchange. Try exiting 680 south for access to San Ramon Valley Blvd south without knowing that intersection.

Thus, I agree, take out the confusing off-ramps and reduce the number of off-ramps. That's a great idea!

Dear neighbors,

There are two stories being told:

#1 - The confusing nature of our 680 interchanges is a real concern and anyone could make the mistake of entering the wrong ramp.

#2 - The second story is a Nanny under the influence and driving children to destinations.

The second part of this story needs a question answered. How are Nannies qualified for their jobs and what regulations exist to insure competence and safe care of children?

Does anyone have a study reference for regulation of Nannies?

Have you ever seen this OFF ramp?! To actually make a right turn onto northbound 680, you would have to be a huge idiot or high on drugs/alcohol to make this turn.
