Take me out to the ballgame – in San Jose

Original post made by Tom Cushing, Danville, on Jun 21, 2013

I worship in Annie Savoy’s Church of Baseball – attend services regularly in Oakland, sit in a designated pew, sing lustily in the seventh inning choir and take it as an article of my faith that Mike Scioscia is Satan. Baseball season defines my year more than holidays, temperatures or turning leaves. And I don’t mind, at all, that we can often leave the house at 6:30 and be in-place to help our heroes repulse-the-foe, before first pitch.

A’s are looking good. Now that they have a decent catcher & short stop, who knows. This could be the year. I’m headed to today’s game.

Surprised you’re talking about baseball with all these juicy Supreme Court decisions going on.

Affirmative Action, Voting Rights Act, DOMA, Prop. 8. And don’t forget Paula Deen.

A perfect opportunity for liberal finger wagging and moralizing. Maybe next time.

S-P: I try to limit myself to one baseball column and one animal welfare column per year. They're not topics of as much general currency, and besides -- there's just So Much good finger-wagging material out there!

VRA and Prop 8 have been done, however, and I'll leave Madame Buttah-face to others. Her situation does remind of that jailhouse scene between Jake and Carl Lee in "A Time to Kill." (rats -- couldn't find it on Youtube).

Maybe the IRS scandal-that-wasn't?

Anyway, go have a root-beer float and bring home an A's win!
