About this blog: I am President of Embarcadero Media's East Bay Division and the publisher of the Pleasanton Weekly, Dublin TriValley Views, San Ramon Express and Danville Express. As a 25-plus-year veteran of the media industry, I have experience in print, broadcast and digital media. In 2004, I left Illinois where I was Executive Editor / Associate Publisher of a group of 14 weekly newspapers and one daily belonging to what is now known as the Chicago Sun-Times Group, to move to Northern California to launch two newspapers and a radio station. To date I have launched eight weekly newspapers (one in Spanish), one daily newspaper, one monthly newspaper, one monthly news magazine, several news websites and an FM radio station. I joined Embarcadero Media in 2006 because of its focus on quality, community journalism and the entrepreneurial spirit of its staff and management team. I have a bachelor's degree in Communications and a master's degree in Business Administration and spend the little spare time I have teaching for University of Phoenix and with my three children, ages 25, 21 and 13.

We are on the hunt for the next Ansel Adams, the next Annie Leibovitz, or just the next person who points a camera and shoots something remarkable. If you've got an eye - and a camera to go with it - enter the 2013 Tri-Valley Photo Contest.
The contest is open to anyone and everyone who lives, works, or attends school in Pleasanton, San Ramon, Danville, Alamo or Blackhawk.
Show us people, charm us with pets and animals, or dazzle us with photos of the Tri-Valley. The winners of the three categories from both the Youth (16 years and younger as of Sept. 30, 2013) and Adult divisions will get to enjoy prizes and some artistic fame.
Digital photos only will be accepted. Submissions must be in jpeg format, at least 1MB and no larger than 3MB in size, and submitted to Pleasanton Weekly by Sept. 27, 2013, along with an entry form and entry fee for each submission. Entry fee is $8 for adults and $3 for youths.
(Editor's note: This is the fee if you have already submitted photos; credit cards have not been charged.)
The photographs must have been taken in the past five years, and we frown on plagiarism so make sure they're your own personal masterpieces!
Submissions will be judged by three local professional photographers: Sue Evans of Photography by Sue Evans; Gina Reuschel-Coomber of Fireboxgirl Photography; and Christina Gray of Bella Luna Studios.
Winners will be notified by Oct. 18 and invited to a reception celebrating their achievements.
For more information or an entry form, see the
webpage.
Sponsors for the contest are
Richard's Arts and Crafts in Livermore and Alamo, and
The Frame Company and Art Gallery in Dublin.
