Wary about the prospect of Cheryl Cook-Kallio in Sacramento

Uploaded: Oct 13, 2016
I admire Cheryl Cook-Kallio for her accomplishments and leadership when she served eight years on the Pleasanton City Council. Pleasanton residents, as well as those throughout the valley, benefitted from his courage to raise issues such as connecting Stoneridge Drive to Livermore.
However, when it comes to partisan politics and Sacramento, I find myself wary. Her television commercial touts her endorsement by Planned Parenthood--presumably it polls well, but nauseates me when I think of those under-cover videos of Planned Parenthood executives talking about selling parts of aborted babies.
The same can be said for the invitation to a fundraiser that radical environmentalist Tom Steyer and his wife, Kat Taylor, held this week at their San Francisco home.
It’s raised funds for four candidates for the Assembly, Cheryl included, as well as two state Senate candidates.
Joining Steyer and Taylor as headliners were both Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin De Leon, both of Southern California.
Not the folks I would choose to mix elbows with, although we could have an interesting policy discussion.

Voters in the Pleasanton school district have two excellent candidates running for school board: Steve Maher and Kathleen Ruesegger. Both are uniquely qualified to step immediately into key roles on the school board.
Maher, who served for decades as a principal in the district, retired five years ago. Since that time, he has been called back for interim duty six times. He believes that must change. The principal churn is unhealthy.
A number of yearas ago, Ruesegger served a term on the school board before stepping aside to move into school administration as an assistant to former Pleasanton Superintendent Mary Frances Callan. Having set both policy and then worked day-to-day with the top administrator gives her an excellent perspective for the board.

Community.
What is it worth to you?

Tim, you are absolutely right about being concerned about Cheryl Cook-Kallio. She is a complete Hillary disciple, and advocate for Planned Parenthood allowing abortions on demand, even during the last month of pregnancy. Her ties to the teachers union, and extremist Tom Steyer, show she is all about partisan politics, and not about representing the interest of her local constituents.

Those leaked Clinton e-mails show how the liberals have absolute disdain for Catholics, and they even created phony Catholic groups to try to start what they describe as a revolution to change church doctrine. These people supported Obamacare that even tried to force a group of nuns to cover abortions and morning after pills, until the US Supreme Court ruled that it was an unconstitutional violation of their right of freedom to practice their religion. These hard core Clinton supporters are anti-Catholic, and those leaked e-mails establish their absolute hatred of Catholicism, and willingness to violate Catholics right to practice their religion.

The last thing we need is someone like that in Sacramento, attacking Catholics right to practice their religion.

I am always amazed at how these people who consider themselves "do-gooders" bounce around from one governmental entity to the other with no more qualifications than any other citizen. If Cook-carpetbagger does not get in this spot, look for her to run for sewer commissioner or fire-house cleaner, anything to get on the dole for sitting on your a** in meetings and getting paid for it. Who the hell gave her the money for commercials, and for what reason? Why would anyone from So-Cal have an interest in this position? Disgusted with politics, all of it !!!

I more than agree. Cook-Kallio should not be elected to the assembly. We have never had a better representative prior to Catherine Baker.

I remember the embarrassing history of Mary Hayashi with her shop lifting conviction. In comparison, Catherine Baker is a breath of fresh air that I want to have around for a long time.

Cook-Kallio is from the ultra-liberal democratic party of Gavin Newsom, Willey Brown, Pamela Harris, all union-intensive, union focused politicians, that have no support outside of the unions.

We all know of Cook-Kallio whoopers that was published by the East Bay News Group, and is called smear today by the democrats. The Cook-Kallio whoopers define the democratic party.

They have no knowledge of what it is they support, no knowledge of the issues, and ignore what is important to the voter. When challenged, asked to identify themselves, as with Cook-Kallio, they speak whoopers.

I am *a* voter and have been exercising my right for 45+ years. I am not *the* voter . . . but then neither is anyone else. We are individuals. I like to research the people, propositions and measures in an election and usually vote with my head, but am sometimes led by my heart. I reject gross generalizations, labeling and name-calling - although I must confess I did call Donald Trump a misogynistic, narcissistic, dishonest, schoolyard bully back in May on these blogs and think the statement "they have no knowledge of what it is they support, no knowledge of the issues, and ignore what is important" could aptly apply to *some* Trump supporters. That said . . .

I'm a proud Democrat. I don't consider "liberal" a slur against my character. I support Hillary Clinton for President as the most qualified candidate. I believe that everyone should be able to practice their beliefs whether they be Agnostic, Atheist, Buddhist, Catholic, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Mormon, Muslim, or Shaman. I also believe in the separation of church and state, and that no religious belief should be allowed to curtail anyone's civil rights, including the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. I think Obamacare didn't go far enough, needs some tweaking, and should be expanded. I support Planned Parenthood because it does good work in women's health. Unions protected workers when business/government wouldn't; they helped build the middle class, but must now have a different, critical role in working with corporations to not only protect workers, but deal with the realities of our economy. As a vet, whose father, ex-husband and brother were/are also vets, I willingly supported my country and my views in service to my country. I could go on, however, to the point of Cheryl Cook-Kallio's candidacy . . .

I have lived in Pleasanton going on 25+ years and have interacted with the city, council and county supervisors on various issues. As I have posted previously on several occasions, I have been very specific about why I would never even consider voting for Cheryl Cook-Kallio for any office. She "defines" neither me nor my politics.

As a proud Democrat, I voted for Catherine Baker in her first run and will be voting for her in November. Her bipartisan approach is exactly what is needed. Unlike Cook-Kallio who touts herself as a "tireless community activist", Catherine Baker actually does the work: from education and protecting children to infrastructure, from transportation to the environment, from women's equality and health to common sense gun control, from jobs to fiscal responsibility. She's done a terrific job and will continue to do so for *all* of her constituents here in the 16th.

Go Raiders!

Just to chime in, I endorsed Catharine Baker when she ran the first time and I plan to endorse her again (for whatever that's worth). She has been an excellent representative for this district. She's not an extremist in either direction and that's what we need -- someone who can get things done. Web Link">Web Link

The 16th Assembly District covers a lot of territory. Web Link">Web Linkdistrict-map/ad16
It goes from Walnut Creek in the North to Pleasanton, and then zaps out to Mountain House and down into a largely unpopulated area between the 680 and 580. Pleasanton may have a big population of Democrats, but most of the rest of District 16 are Republicans or Independents.

Catharine is very popular here. She's accomplished a lot in her short time in the Assembly and has worked "across the aisle" as they say to get things done. Web Link">Web Link
If even Billie says she is voting for Baker, Cook-Kallio doesn't have a chance!

I don't know much about Cook-Kallio except that she is popular in Pleasanton. The district

Hey Roz,
Happy wet Sunday! I'm depressed, Raiders lost :-(

As for Cook-Kallio, this is the best example of why I didn't vote for her on our Council, and won't vote for her in the 16th: Web Link

Not to mention the fact that she heartily endorses and is endorsed by Alameda County Supervisor Haggerty . . .

Take care,
Billie

Anyone who is considering voting for Cook-Kallio should take a deep breath and observe that Gov. Moonbeam endorsed her and promised to campaign for her. Heaven help us.

The democracy will be a joke if Catherine Baker fails to continue to serve AD 16 in this election. She is doing so great in her two rookie years that everybody in AD16 has enough reason to support her to continue her work in Sacramento to serve we the people, no matter you are democratic, or independent or republican. Besides, what will be the benefit of a democratic super-majority in the legislature? it only means free spending of the tax money without any check and control!!!

We should elect people like Catharine Baker as our representative who dedicates to work across the party line, who helps to maintain check & balance in California's heavily distorted political system, Who is smart, discipline, fiscal conservative, and absolutely no cent of corruption, who is not controlled by special interest groups like union.

Any citizen who supports Cook-Kallio, please kindly pause and think a little bit more that if you are responsible to yourself, to the community, to people in AD-16, and to California. If you are, then you shouldn't vote for her. We don't need a person who is absolutely worse than Catharine Baker in all aspects to represent us in Sacramento.
