Workday founder Dave Duffield, a well-known dog lover, has his Alamo property on the market for $39 million according to an ad in the most recent edition of Diablo magazine. Dubbed Fieldhaven, the mansion was built for $135 million and finished three years ago.
The property covers 21.48 acres and includes the 20,000-square-foot main home, a car barn designed to house 15 vehicles with a one-bedroom home above it as well as a 2-bedroom guest house and outdoor entertaining area. A 75-foot suspension bridge connects to the treehouse.
For the dog, it has two paw-washing stations, a dog spa and its own dog park.
What’s really cool is once the estate is sold, all proceeds will go to Duffield’s foundation, Maddie’s Fund, that benefits animals.
Duffield has been so successful financially that he has no need for the millions. He also founded PeopleSoft in Pleasanton.

Going to the movies is not something I routinely do—it’s a rare experience. I think I saw two films in theaters last year and have already seen two this year. (The Monday senior specials with those great lounge chairs at the Blackhawk cinemas do lure me).
Monday, at the suggestion of a good friend, we braved the downpour and saw Hidden Figures, the story of three brilliant African-American women working at NASA in the early 1960s during the race to the moon.
Wow. What a spell-binding movie and how far we have come as a country. As one who was born and grew up in California, the segregated South was something I knew only through news clips and photos. The civil rights museum in Memphis opened my eyes when we visited 18 months ago.
I shuddered to watch what these women went through, set amid the drama of the space race against the Russians. What a great movie and what distinguished careers the women had once they broke through walls at NASA.
Interestingly, the other movie I saw earlier this year in a private preview, “The Shack” also featured Octavia Spencer in a leading role. Based upon the book by Wm. Paul Young, it tells an amazing story of redemption after a father’s young daughter is kidnapped and killed. It is an excellent movie that delivers a powerful spiritual message. It opens across the nation next week.
