Progressive George Soros on a Hoover Institution program?

Uploaded: Feb 3, 2022
I will confess my surprise when I received a Hoover Institution email announcing a discussion about China leading up to the Winter Olympics that featured keynote remarks by George Soros.

Soros, the progressive billionaire, seemed unlikely, at best, to be sharing the screen in a Hoover virtual event. He’s invested millions to elect progressive district attorneys such as George Gascon in Los Angeles and Chesa Boudin in San Francisco (who is facing a recall election in June).

It was no joke so I zoomed in on Monday to hear Soros’s remarks as well as comments from Hoover fellows. Soros started by comparing China’s propaganda goals with the Winter Olympics as similar to Nazi Germany’s in the 1936 Berlin Olympics that were dominated by Black American Jesse Owens winning four gold medals.

Soros pointed out that this was a pivotal time for China because ruler Xi Jinping faces numerous key challenges in addition to his public commitment to take back Taiwan by force if necessary. The increasing belligerence there, Soros said, could be offset by the United States partnering with other democracies to make it clear that China would pay a heavy price. Japan is the most notable country committed to defending Taiwan.

Jinping has focused on regaining Chinese Community Party control over the economy and companies that had been allowed to function in the private sector, undoing the work of his predecessor. That, combined with China’s increasing capability in Artificial Intelligence, has resulted in a surveillance system that monitors its own people. He said that many Chinese didn’t like that, but could not speak out publicly—witness how dissidents and street protests in Hong Kong were subdued. Soros said that Jinping is a hard-core communist whose heroes are Lenin and Mao Zedong. His policies are based on two words—“total control.”

That said, he faces huge challenges because the Chinese Covid-19 vaccine is specific for the original virus and not effective against the much more infectious Omicron. That leaves total lockdowns and an Olympic bubble as the only options and they won’t work based on the Hong Kong experience.

In addition, the real estate bubble is poised to pop and there’s a huge demographic challenge based on decades of the one-child limitation that since has been reversed. The government now is encouraging multiple kids. Soros said that the official population count is about 130 million too high. Jinping controls the military, the communications and other institutions so he can exert control until some of his fellow elites can no longer tolerate him.

Soros said that the second quarter this year will determine whether China and Jinping can survive the real estate mess and this year will determine whether he succeeds in becoming leader for life.

Community.
What is it worth to you?

Conservatives and George Soros now have a common enemy.

I commend the Hoover Institution for inviting Mr. Soros. Hi speech put a pin in the far right's attempt to flag him as a communist, socialist, et al. It never occurred to them that one cannot be a self-made billionaire and a socialist at the same time. Their comments were hyperbole and propaganda, often to raise funds.

Soros is no friend to America......China is no friend to America......Trump had it right all along be completely independent from china. The time for the democrat liberals reign is coming to an end. The problem is republicans are weak....but much less radical for the most part support Law and order and our soldiers and police and fire men and women where as the left have shown distain. As far as the radical left DA's who do not enforce the laws they are in violation of the Oath they took and the requirements of the job and must be removed immediately! Soros should be hunted down and arrested and tried as an enemy of this country all his assets should be frozen. Won't happen with Mindless Joe Biden but it could under Trump in 2025

It never ceases to amaze me the the number of people (probably liberals) that live in ignorance. To think they praise Soros, but don't understand what he is doing. Read about how he became a billionaire. See who he is connected with in this country- all disingenuous politicians from the past and present. Understand what he did at 14 years old during WWll. Look at the anti-American initiatives and weak on crime DA's he supports.

What scares me the most is that you people vote.

Thirty years ago, I was registering patents in Beijing with the Chinese patent office. The office now may be the Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration.

I had a business relationship with the PLA, I worked with senior Chinese general responsible for technology development in all of China. I had access to military bases, I visited leaders in their homes. Everyone I did business with was PLA, Corruption was everywhere.

As Xi Jinping was assuming office in 2013, I received an email from an official in the CCP. He was bragging how China was going to supersede America's economy. I responded how that will never happen because of the corruption, I informed him, Chine will implode. He replied back. "I forwarded your comment to Xi Jinping."

It took a couple of years initially, but Xi Jinping was busy arresting and jailing a lot of people with whom I had worked. 2015, I had dinner with the mayor of Dalian China, in Santa Clara along with several other CCP members.

Just a year or two later he and his wife were in jail. today, everyone I did business with is in jail or dead, with exception of one person. Corruption remains in China, it is underground. I have heard from reliable sources that PLA are promoted based on the size of their bribe, not on their intellect.

Trouble brewing in the China Olympics already - censorship, living conditions, food, etc. So, why did we go? Why not boycott the Olympics?
