My Good-Guys debut delayedUploaded: May 31, 2013
I was going to write this week's blog on putting an Animal Control shelter in San Ramon, either with assistance from the County, or the City, or a rescue group or a combination of them. I brought that up in Public Comment at the City Council meeting on May 28th and spoke with District 2 Supervisor Candace Andersen about it on Wednesday.
Supervisor Andersen asked several questions I needed to follow up on. I emailed Contra Costa County Animal Services Thursday morning with a list of questions and copied Police Chief Scott Holder, San Ramon City Manager Greg Rogers, the City Council and Mayor Clarkson, and Danville Town Council Manager, Joe Calabrigo.
Chief Holder answered, "You are asking for quite a bit of information that I doubt you will be able to obtain for blog preparation by tomorrow, but good luck." I thought I would have enough to write about, but Chief Holder is right. So I'm waiting for more information until I have something solid to write about.
So today I'm writing about not going to the Good Guys Summer Get-Together this weekend. Last March I wrote about not being able to find a parking spot at the Spring show in my blog Bad Day at Good-Guys. I said I was bringing my Maverick Grabber to Miracle Auto Paint in Pleasanton for a facelift and would try to get into the indoor exhibit in June. Well my Mav is still at Miracle because they had problems with the decals and stripes, which they are making right, right now.
I phoned Good-Guys to ask if I could get a credit for my registration in June and apply it to the November show, but it was too late to get a credit. The small print in the Confirmation flier says "Refund/Transfer requests must be submitted two weeks prior to the event with return of official event confirmation."
I'm not surprised that it's too late to get a refund when the show starts tomorrow. The woman on the phone suggested bringing another car. I could bring my new Focus, since there is no limit on the vehicle's year for the Summer show, but even though it is a neat looking car, it isn't one I want to show off at a hot-rod, muscle car show.
I could use my tickets for parking in the public lot and attend the show without showing a vehicle. I may do this if I have enough time on Sunday, but I burned my foot last weekend by dropping a kettle of boiling water on it, so I can't walk around very easily. The Fire Dept. sent out a paramedic who cleaned it up and bandaged it and told me not to pop the blister.
But of course I popped it. It was huge and I couldn't put on shoes with it there. I needed to be able to go out to shop and bring my cat Cinnamon to Bishop Ranch Vet for her recheck. Good news, Cinnamon is improving! I'm still a doofus.
I'm teaching two online Information Systems classes this week and have 28 final papers to grade. I finished grading one class yesterday and it took twice as long as I expected. I was hoping to have both classes graded on Thursday. I shall start grading the 14 papers from my other class as soon as I post this blog.
If anyone reading this today has a car you would like to bring to the Good-Guys 20th Summer Get-Together tomorrow or Sunday, send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. I'd like my event registration package to go to a vehicle that is original and not chopped. No low riders please. I prefer a vehicle from the 50's through the 70's, maybe even another Maverick.
So far my Grabber is the only Maverick I've ever seen in the Pleasanton shows, although in 2007 another Mav owner brought his 1973 Grabber. We took some photos of the two together in the parking lot. It would be nice for another Maverick to be in the exhibits.
Next week I'm writing my blog on the winner of the James B. Kohnen Scholarship from the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) where Mr. Kohnen served as a Director for many years. I was on the Selection Committee with former Dublin Mayor, Janet Lockhart and DSRSD Supervisor of the Year, Levi Fuller. We met at the Elephant Bar for lunch. That was my first time there, so I'll include my restaurant review in my blog too.
I plan to write my blog on an Animal Shelter for San Ramon in a couple of weeks when I have more time and more information on the feasibility of starting our own.
