Finals set for Valley Teen Idol

The San Ramon Valley Rotary Club presents Valley Teen Idol, a musical competition in the style of "American Idol." The semifinals were recently held at Danville's Village Theatre, and the finals are coming up on March 22.

The final round will be held at the San Ramon Performing Arts Theater at Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon. The prizes for this show of local musical talent -- vocal and instrumental, grades 7 through 12 -- will be $2,500 for first place, $1,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for students. All proceeds go toward supporting the club's philanthropic programs, such as supporting the local middle and high school music departments, offering scholarships to deserving high school seniors and supporting the club's adopted elementary school, in addition to other efforts on a global level.

Tickets for the finals can be purchased online. Danville councilman Newell Arnerich is set to serve as master of ceremonies.

San Ramon Valley Rotary is also looking for corporate sponsors for the event. For more information, contact Tom Eager at 487-5964 or Jessica Braverman at 932-7011.
