Town opens dog park, nearly all sports fields

Hap Magee Ranch, home of newly renovated 'Canine Corral,' also to host historical tour this weekend

Danville officials have opened the Hap Magee Ranch Park dog park and all but one of the town-maintained natural grass sports fields after rain last week delayed the openings.

"Play Ball!" town officials said on social media Wednesday while announcing the end of the annual winter facility closures.

The only sports field still closed is the 90-foot lighted baseball diamond at Diablo Vista Park.

With the opening of the Hap Magee "Canine Corral," residents and their pet dogs can check out the new hybrid sod for the first time.

Hap Magee will be at the center of another event this weekend.

Local historian Beverly Lane will lead a public tour of the park, chronicling the history of the property, including its time as an orphanage and as an active ranch.

A collaboration between the town and the Museum of the San Ramon Valley, the tour will be offered twice: Saturday from 2-3:30 p.m. and April 17 from 10-11:30 a.m. The park is located at 1025 La Gonda Way.
