UPDATE: San Ramon man killed in Crow Canyon crash

Two others injured in head-on collision west of San Ramon

A San Ramon man was killed when his Nissan was struck head-on by a pickup truck just outside of San Ramon on Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Ravi Pappu, 32, was heading north on Crow Canyon Road at 8:21 p.m. about a mile west of the Bollinger Canyon Road intersection when a Ford pickup truck driven by a 44-year-old San Ramon man drifted over the double yellow lines and crashed into Pappu's 2004 Nissan Sentra, CHP officials said.

Pappu, his 29-year-old passenger and the pickup driver were taken to a hospital, where Pappu died from his injuries. The truck driver suffered major injuries and Pappu's passenger also suffered moderate to major injuries, according to the CHP.

Investigators are still looking into why the pickup driver ended up on the wrong side of the road and whether alcohol or drugs might have been a factor.

Crow Canyon Road was closed for about two hours through the area during the investigation.

Sad news. Puts us in perspective , how a routine drive out to have dinner or a trip to groceries would change the life of a person and his family.

Fun road to drive, but there just aren't many options if somebody screws-up. Very sad.

It appears from some FaceBook investigating that it was his wife, whom he recently married, driving as his passenger and that she is severely injured. There is a gofundme page that was started to help cover family expenses: Web Link

My condolences to the family.

Do we have information on the Ford pick-up truck driver? Is his insurance company going to pay Pappu's wife? She may not even be in a state of mind to fight any battles. Hope the press will keep the pressure on.
