DSRSD opts to fill board vacancy by appointment

Recruitment underway; new official to serve through 2016

The Dublin San Ramon Services District Board of Directors has decided to appoint a representative to fill an open seat on the board, rather than hold a special election.

The agency will be accepting nominations for the open board seat. The vacancy comes after former board member Dawn Benson resigned in August to pursue a job within the district.

The appointed board member's term will run through 2016, half of the remainder of Benson's term, the district stated in a release.

The official will have voting authority about decisions that affect the water and wastewater retailer, which provides services to parts of San Ramon as well as Dublin and Pleasanton.

To apply, candidates should submit an application (which can be found on the department's website under "News") to district secretary Nicole Genzale by 5 p.m. on Sept. 28 via board@dsrsd.com. Applications can also be mailed to the attention of the district secretary at Dublin San Ramon Services District, 7051 Dublin Blvd. Dublin, CA 94568.

The district secretary will notify candidates for interview scheduling on Sept. 29, and an appointment will be made no later than Oct. 18, officials said.

To be eligible to serve on the board, applicants must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter and must live within the district's service boundaries.
