Chelsea Clinton set for Danville book-signing

Chelsea Clinton is set to visit a Danville bookstore to promote her new book, "It's Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!"

Clinton is in the midst of a nationwide tour to promote the book discussing community and societal change. She will sign copies of her new book at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Rakestraw Books, 3 Railroad Ave.

Cities across the country are on Clinton's book-signing roster, including Washington D.C. and New York City.

The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and current presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton is involved with philanthropic work for several organizations, including the Clinton Global Initiative and the Clinton Foundation.

Tickets for the event are $23 and include a copy of Clinton's new book. Each ticket admits four people, and tickets are on sale at Rakestraw Books or by calling 837-7337, with advanced purchase recommended.

I wouldn't walk across the street to see her. She is the privileged only child of professional politicians. What hardships or deprivation has she faced in her life? Of course, she has become a quasi-celebrity pundit and wants to encourage more donations to her family foundation (the nonprofit that gives Chelsea and Bill huge inflated salaries). The Clinton Foundation is a scam and a front to promote the Clinton agenda as well as to fund their lavish lifestyle.(Hillary said they were poor when they left the Whitehouse!). The Clinton Foundation was being funded while Hillary was the Secretary of State. Convenient don't you think? The Clinton's have perfected deceit and greed in the name of philanthropy and now have grown accustomed to accumulating more millions by asking the rest of us to get involved. Yes, go ahead and buy her book. I'd rather give it to a local homeless shelter.

Yes, Louise, I'm sure you give frequently to local homeless shelters.

Aw c'mon Louise, give the young gal a break. None of us asked to be born into the families that we ended up with. 2600 years ago I made a great impact on those around me, but where am I now? In San Ramon. I never wanted to come back, but they sent me back to pay for all my sins!

Louise:

You might be interested in the Cheney's (Dick and his daughter) new book. I heard they were on your favorite channel FOX news. The book recounts how the Iraqi's welcomed the US with open-arms and bouquets of roses.

I recommend the Cheney book which should satisfy your needs and beliefs. The book will quench all of your fantasies.

She looks more like her mother and not Bill Lewinsky.

Chelsea runs a "charity foundation" and yet it was recently published that she bought a $10 million dollar penthouse in NY city? This is exactly why those in her own party are moving away from Hillary and to Bernie, as at least with him he is honest and you know you are getting a socialist. Hillary claimed the Clinton's left Washington "basically broke". She claimed her husband was not an adulterer and it was all a "right wing conspiracy". It is understandable and noble that someone would want to support their mom running for President. But as the recent poll showed the number one word that comes to mind when thinking of Hillary is "Liar", and buying a $10 million penthouse on the back of a "charity foundation" shows the apple does not fall far from the tree.

Regarding the comment about fantasies, I do not harbor any fantasies about what the real motives are for most politicians. With rare exceptions most have their own reasons for wanting to be in office. I strongly doubt those who are already wealthy are in it for the money. One needs to question the true motives of those who seem to get richer and richer as they rise in their political careers and yet claim they aren't. Or they say they care about the poor and middle class, or they live lavishly and are surrounded by luxury in every aspect of their lives. It is easy to be generous with other people's money, whether it be the taxpayer or your personal non-profit that you take a huge salary from and expense everything else. What is the saying, power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

What do you expect from the spawn of an impeached President of the United States and a former Secretary of State that covets the Presidency who lies and denies. Chelsea has quite a set of roll models to make proud.

My daughter was in the Masters Public Health Program at Columbia University, and she told me that
she was impressed at how lovely and intelligent Chelsea was.
She said that she is very sweet and well mannered...
Her book is about ways that you can become involved and to make a difference on issues that concern all
of us in the world.

She sure must be " intelligent" as not many people who run a " charity foundation" can afford to buy a $10 million penthouse in NY. Gives new meaning to the phrase " charity starts at home".

Let's ask Chelsea how we can stop her parents from using their government jobs and connections to funnel money from foreign governments to their "foundation", which spends a paltry percentage of its intake on its supposed recipients, and the vast majority on administrative costs, such as Chelsea 's salary, her trips, and her other perks. Why did Hilary need a secret email server? To conceal all the double-dealing regarding the foundation, of course.

Being rich and running a charity foundation are not mutually exclusive categories. Frankly, as most "charities" (which I consider non-profits, a field I have worked in for almost 40 years) rely on contributions from their own staff (who are likely underpaid - we do this for the love of the job and community we serve, not for the salary), having a rich staff member can work out rather nicely when fundraising events are supported by those with financial resources of their own. Knowing how to meet the needs of the organization/mission is paramount, whether the person is born in to wealth is largely meaningless.

My sister and our kids stood in line for over 2 hours to meet Chelsea Clinton last night. What a complete disappointment! The staff ushered us in, snapped a picture and that was it. Over in less than 5 seconds. Chelsea Clinton didn't even bother to say "hello" or look up. This was so disappointing especially since my daughter and niece really wanted to meet her. This was just to peddle her book. I'm not even sure if I would go back to this book store. I may just take our business to Barnes & Noble. We family met Henry Winkler a year or two ago at a book signing and he was gracious and took the time to talk to us as he signed our books. We were able to take more than one picture.

Are you saying the Clinton's took your money and gave you nothing in return, and failed to keep their promises? Shocking! Must be a right wing conspiracy!

This was announced as a book signing. Yes, there were a lot of people in line. I dit wait an hour.
I thought it was well- run. You handed your book to be signed and a photo could be taken...
I actually, did speak to her.... She was very nice.
I've gone to many author appearances at Rakestraw, and they are usually significantly smaller. They are author readings, so
people can speak briefly to the author..... I' sure you could have briefly said a few words...

I don't begrudge Chelsea Clinton her $10M mansion (or maybe at NYC real estate prices, it is more of a "large condo"...). She has faced many challenges in her life, due to having a father and mother who are both habitual liars, and whose primary goals are the accumulation of power and money, by whatever means necessary. My only advice to Chelsea is to keep her e-mail off of the "family" server(s), and stick to something like gmail.... :-)

Responding to Ept, maybe you were one of the lucky ones that had their book signed during the first hour. Some man from the bookstore came out with a pad of post it notes and wrote down what we wanted Chelsea to write in our book. Perhaps the bookstore should have given Chelsea a break. By the time we had her sign our book, it was 8:30 pm and we were rushed through so everyone can go home early. By this time, Chelsea couldn't even write her name let alone look up. She signed her name as "Chl - Clint". Rakestraw also advertised that you could purchase additional copies of the book at the signing, only there were none left. Was Rakestraw too greedy and kept selling tickets even though they could not accommodate everyone? I too will never purchase anything from this bookstore again. What a disappointment. The kids will always remember Chelsea Cliniton's book signing event as a "waste of time" when they would much rather be doing their homework. So...it's a good thing Rakestraw ran out of copies of the book because I wouldn't want them to make any more money than they already have. Barnes and Nobles is having a family and friends event where you may purchase any one item for 20% off. I think I can go sign a few copies of Chelsea's book with "Chl-Clint".

I completely agree with Donald. Extra copies were promised and there wasn't any to be sold. I could have just as easily picked up the book at Barnes and Noble and called it a day. What a total disappointment. I will be visiting Barnes and Noble this weekend as well.
