Danville council to select new mayor, announce Community Service Awards

The Town Council is set to name a new mayor and honor standout people and organizations for their contributions to the Danville community during a ceremony downtown Tuesday night.

The annual Mayor's Installation and Community Service Awards event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the Village Theatre and Art Gallery, 233 Front St.

The event will begin with the council presenting the Community Service Awards. Past award categories have included volunteer of the year, award of special recognition, the Michael K. Shimansky Community Service Award, architectural awards, awards of merit and the Danville Award.

After the awards are handed out, the council will select one of its members to serve as Danville's mayor for 2016 and another to serve as town vice mayor for the year. Mike Doyle held the mayoral post for 2015, with Councilwoman Karen Stepper sitting as vice mayor.

A reception will be held in the art gallery following the ceremony. For more information, contact city clerk Marie Sunseri at 314-3401 or msunseri@danville.ca.gov.

This is a great event for the community - we encourage our Veteran community - supporters & community members to attend... be active in supporting community events.

We are fortunate with two significant Memorials in the Town of Danville... our Veterans Memorial Building & the All Wars Memorial... a tribute to all those who are serving and all who have proudly served our nation in uniform.

This is an active community... with a Veterans Memorial Building standing as a “living memorial” for all Veterans... home to six Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) & the Blue Star Moms & ready for those serving when they return.

All Wars Memorial is an amazing site - located in Oak Hill Park on Stone Valley Road, next to Monte Vista High School, a special Memorial & place to remember & honor all those who served & family members & Patriots who supported those serving. The Town of Danville beautifully maintains both of these Memorials - a real tribute to those who provided & gave us Freedom we enjoy & creating what Veterans are proud to call "the most Patriotic Community in the bay area."

As Veterans, we appreciate the community's support for all who served & those serving and very proud of our community. Tonight... get involved by attending the Town’s “Change of Command” program installing a new Mayor & recognizing community service. It's the right thing to do... and you will be glad you did!
