Bishop Ranch set for annual tree-lighting

70-foot illuminated fir, Santa photos, snow play area, live music among activities at Friday event

Thousands are expected to head to San Ramon's Bishop Ranch business park Friday evening for the annual tree-lighting ceremony and holiday event.

Free to the public and running from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the family event features photos with Santa Claus, a live reindeer, petting zoo, snow play area for children 12 and younger and live performances, plus the illumination of a 70-foot Douglas fir holiday tree at 6:30 p.m., according to organizers.

"We've watched this fun holiday event at Bishop Ranch grow to over 3,000 attendees from just 300 in its inaugural year, and we're excited that the tree-lighting ceremony has become a tradition for many local families," said Alexander Mehran Jr., president and COO at Sunset Development Co., which owns and operates Bishop Ranch.

"It's just one of the ways that Bishop Ranch has played a role in bringing the community together during the holiday season," he added.

Food truck and local restaurant vendors will also be on-site, musical, dance and theater entertainment will take place on two stages, and One Warm Coat and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Counties will be on-hand collecting donations.

Both serving as event partners, One Warm Coat will accept gently used coats and financial contributions, and the food bank will accept funds and pre-packaged food donations (no glass containers), organizers said.

The holiday event will take place this Friday at Bishop Ranch 1, 6111 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon. For more information, call 866-0100.
