Hap Magee Ranch dog park set to re-open this week

A dog park in Danville will be open about two months earlier than normal as a result of a drought-related decision, according to town officials.

The "Canine Corral" at Hap Magee Ranch Park is slated to open this Friday, ahead of the expected March 1 date.

Usually the dog park and all sports fields are closed from the beginning of December until March in order to give the grass fields time to heal and new sod to be laid at the Canine Corral, according to town officials.

But the sod will be not replaced this season because the needed irrigation would not be available due to state drought restrictions, town officials said.

So the dog park, located at 1025 La Gonda Way, will be opened early, but town officials said it will be closed still on days of inclement weather. Residents can call 314-3484 to find out whether the dog park is open on those days.

It would be great if you posted when the dog park would be open on the park website. The information number goes to voicemail on weekends, when most use the dog park. Thank you.
