Local artist's Mount Diablo painting wins Award of Excellence

Danville artist Robin Purcell earned the Award of Excellence for Watermedia for her painting "After the Fire VIII" at the 16th annual American Impressionist Society National Juried Exhibition last fall.

"I am deeply honored for the recognition of one of my 'After the Fire Series' of paintings, painted on Mount Diablo, the landscape I know and love best," Purcell said in a statement. "The American Impressionist Society is a highly respected organization showing some of the best paintings being created today."

"After the Fire VIII," a 14-inch-by-16-inch watercolor painting, also earned Purcell $1,000 as part of the award. The exhibition, judged by artist Carolyn Anderson, ran during October at the Trailside Galleries in Scottsdale, Ariz.
