Diablo author releases new children's book

'The Wrong Side of the Bed' is Lisa Bakos' first kids' picture book

Diablo resident and author Lisa M. Bakos recently released her first children's picture book, "The Wrong Side of the Bed."

The debut work, with illustrations by Anna Raff, is about the "mayhem that ensues when a little girl wakes up to a menagerie of mischief making animals and only one bunny slipper, suggesting that sometimes a little bit of flexibility can make a big difference," according to Bakos.

"I've always enjoyed writing," she said in an interview last week. "I have several notebooks filled with story ideas all over my house, in my car and on my phone."

The local author said she draws her inspiration for writing books straight from the essence in her home.

"Most of my ideas come from my kids and my pets -- my two favorite subjects," Bakos added.

Bakos graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology. After her college graduation, her degree took her into sales management, which helped lead her to a career as an author.

"Sales management gave me experience meeting and working with people from all over the world," she said. "I believe this put me at ease speaking publicly and thinking out of the box."

"Much like sales, in the publishing world, you have to believe in yourself and your product, be your own advocate and not take no for an answer," she added.

Bakos said she writes books in between taking care of her family -- her husband, two sons and one daughter, along with nurturing her pets at home.

She is set to publicly celebrate the launch of "The Wrong Side of the Bed" through a publication party at Rakestraw Books in Danville later this week.
