Authorities identify Moraga man killed on I-680 near Danville

A man who died in a fatal traffic incident on Interstate 680 near Danville on Sunday afternoon was identified Monday by the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office as 51-year-old Maziar Maghsoodnia.

Coroner's officials said the death of the Moraga man was classified as a vehicle-versus-pedestrian incident.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials were not immediately available to provide additional details on the incident, which was reported at 12:18 p.m. Sunday on southbound I-680 south of Sycamore Valley Road.

CHP officials have only said that at least four vehicles were involved in a collision and a body was found in the roadway.

We saw the body laying near the fast lane and a girl was crying on her knees next to the body.

The man killed in this accident was a Doctor of Pharmacy, graduate of UCSF School of Pharmacy. He was a very kind man who was always available to help others. Everyone who knew him loved him. What a loss.

An awful tragedy. Driving is the most dangerous thing most of us do – especially on I680. It’s a reminder to never get out of your car on the freeway (if possible). Wait for the emergency personnel or get off the freeway/roadway. It was a terrible coincidence of a massive storm and the “spring forward” effect of daylight savings (increased traffic accidents). There were 13 accidents on I680 Sunday between Dublin and Danville from 7:00 am and 4:00 pm.
