San Ramon Rotary to recognize 'Unsung Heroes'

Rotarians presenting awards Thursday to four people who embody 'service above self'

The Rotary Club of San Ramon announced the recipients of its 2016 Unsung Hero Awards, which honor residents for their community service.

Dotti Kaiser, of the San Ramon Regional Medical Center; Jerry Yahiro, of Vietnam Veterans of Diablo Valley; Marie Ivona, of Tony LaRussa's Animal Rescue Foundation; and Kathy Jones, of Lindsay Wildlife Experience, were selected for the awards.

"The San Ramon Rotary Club is once again proud to recognize four deserving people who embody Rotary's motto of 'Service Above Self,'" Hermann Welm, awards coordinator for the club, said in a news release. "The amount of time and effort they give to our community is extraordinary, and makes San Ramon a better place to live"

San Ramon Rotarians will recognize these community members for their selfless service at its regular meeting this Thursday at noon at the Crow Canyon Country Club.

The award recipients, all of whom are unpaid volunteers, were chosen for giving numerous hours to their organizations and making positive contributions to the community, all while not being well-known to the general community, Rotary officials said.

The organization each individual represents will receive a $250 grant from the San Ramon Rotary Foundation.

Individuals who are members of a Rotary Club or who have an immediate family members who is part of a Rotary Club were not eligible for the annual awards.
