Alamo teen drag racer continues strong season

Miller sits in first place after victory in Sacramento

Alamo native Leigha Miller is set to head to Southern California this weekend eying her third win of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Jr. Drag Racing League season.

A seventh-grader at Stone Valley Middle School, Miller sits in first place in her age group in the junior league's Pacific division after following up her season-opening win in Arizona in January with a victory April 30 at Sacramento Raceway.

Miller crossed the finish line at 81.35 mph, 0.07 seconds ahead of her opponent, to notch the win in Sacramento.

"Leigha really competed," her father Dean Miller said via email. "She raced five rounds to take the win (April 30). The first round began around 10 a.m., and she ran the final round win at 10 p.m. in the dark -- something she has never done."

Miller remains atop in the 13-14 years old class of the NHRA junior league's Division 7, which covers the Western United States.

Her next scheduled event is this Saturday and Sunday in Irwindale, east of Los Angeles.
