The Alamo Rotary Club recently honored outstanding students and educators for their positive impacts in the community.
Six students were recognized during a May 18 luncheon at Round Hill Country Club for their committed service and enthusiastic involvement in school: Carter Bergen (Alamo Elementary School), Peter Orlov (Lucille Glass Mauzy School), Emma Eichten (Rancho Romero Elementary School), Joaquin Taylor (San Ramon Valley High School), Mimi Janze (Stone Valley Middle School) and Mark Buesa (Monte Vista High School).
Rotary also honored six educators for their extraordinary dedication and for serving as a steady inspiration to their students: Tina Flores (Alamo), Debbie Munoz (Mauzy), Diane O'Hara (Rancho Romero), Kim Tretten (San Ramon Valley), Ben Loomer (Stone Valley) and Mike Huntsman (Monte Vista).
Principals from each school attended the May 18 event to describe the special characteristics that make each winner deserving of the recognition, and all honorees were given a plaque and thank you for their ongoing support and contribution to their schools and community.
The Rotary Club also announced it is seeking nominations from community members for its Alamo 2016 Citizen of the Year. Nominees must be citizens who have displayed a special commitment to the Alamo community and must truly represent the best integrity, service and citizenship, according to Rotary officials.
The deadline for submission is Aug. 19, and the award will be announced and presented on Sept. 21.
Citizen of the Year nominees can be sent to committee chairman Dick Olsen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
