Street Smarts program releases newest traffic safety storybook

San Ramon Valley traffic education program Street Smarts has released its latest traffic safety picture book, "The Crazy Comet from Outer Space."

San Ramon author Dana Mentink wrote the story with the pages illustrated by 11 local elementary students who won the annual Street Smarts storybook poster contest earlier this year.

More than 270 elementary school students in the San Ramon Valley entered submissions into the contest, according to organizers.

"The storybook is distributed in the community as a way to educate children about the school bus, vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle safety concepts," said Dolores Pita, San Ramon Valley Street Smarts coordinator.
